Posting results and medal tables

51 members have voted

  1. 1. Should results be posted on Totallympics and if so, in which way? The same for medal tables

    • Results: Every single result of every single heat/race of every single event should be posted in the same way as before
    • Results: No results should be posted
    • Results: Only the medalists of events should be posted
    • Results: Medalists should be posted as before, all non-medalists should be posted in a "Spoiler" so they only appear when you click on the spoiler
    • Medals: No medal tables should be posted
      0
    • Medals: Full medal tables should be posted as before, after each and every event
    • Medals: Full medal tables should be posted after every event, but only in a spoiler, so everyone can choose whether or not to see them
    • Medals: One full medal table after the last day of a Championship/Games/etc is good enough

There's quite a lot of discussion about the posting of results and medal tables and how that's supposed to happen. To get a bit of an idea what everyone's opinions are, I think a poll could help out a little.

Of course there are probably more options possible, I only tried to get the most "common" options together. It's possible to vote for more than one option, so at least select 1 Results and 1 Medals option please :)

I think, one of the options to be take on consideration is.

Post the full results of the Olympic Sports World and Continental Championships, with a medal standing at the end of the day.

Post medalists or top 6/top 10 of each olympic sport event (not a World or continental Championship) like a world cup, Grand Prix, world tour stage etc... and adding a link for the remaining standing. (or adding them on the spoiler)

Post only medalists in non-olympic sports, no need medal table.

but ofc, we have to try first, how to post results, because this software isn´t the best option for posting results, like was discuss

Imagine there is a competition with 100 participants at a World Championships. Why would you not post the top-3/6 in the normal way and put the rest in a spoiler?

If you don't put them in a spoiler --> You need to scroll past all 100 names to go to the next post

If you put them in a spoiler --> You only have to scroll past one sentence that says "This is a spoiler, click to see it" (or something like that) but still all 100 names are there..

I just honestly don't know any argument why not to use this spoiler option for bigger results than say 3 names.

I fully agree with this!

This can ensure we have detailed coverage of the most important events, whilst keeping the excellent range of other events results that makes Totallympics so unique.

I don't like the idea of spoilers because for major events all results should be seen and available without having to click on a spoiler, which can be easily missed and detracts from the point of posting the full results.

But for smaller events, top 10/medallists only would be sufficient and there would be no need to post the remaining results in a spoiler.

Well, I'm stating my opinion. I voted for three of the choises.

Number 1: Results posted as before - I picked this choise for multiple reasons. Firstly, Totallympics was usually the only place where I could easily find results for some sports that our media does not cover (yes, even those that have Lithuanians taking part in it). Also, I know that the topics used to get flooded with heat results, but there are many sports where heat results are majorly important.

Number 2: Medalists + Spoilers that reveal the full results. Even if the option 1 is not available, I still really want to be able to see the results. The spoiler function would help those members who don't want the threads to be covered with flags and I'm ok with that, just as long as I have the chance to find the results on the forum.

Number 3: Medal tables should be posted at the end of the competition - I don't see a huge reason to post medal tables at the end of day, I think the medal table is important information only when the competition is actually over.

But in that case major events should have 2 threads: one in which only results are posted and nothing else, and one for discussion. Because threads of major events in which huge lists of results are posted become almost unreadable for some people (my browser often nearly exploded with the overload of results and moving flags and everything)

I agree especially with your number 2. Don't get me wrong, I find it very important to have a lot of results from especially smaller sports and competitions.

Federations like FIS and IBU already have their own, much better results databases and sports like athletics and cycling have a thousand sites where it's easier to find what you want. However, many federations have a very messed up way of putting results online and so having them on the forum is extremely useful.

My one and only complaint is the huge lists of results and flags and huge letters and colours and everything that makes some threads look like a children's website project and completely the opposite of a place where you can discuss as well. With spoilers it's much "cleaner" and you still have all results (which I find important, I love the results of smaller sports).

    • Linn Gestblom (previously Persson) Will miss all season. Not recovered after surgery.
    • Greece and Portugal also have winter sports centres - but of course these are not homologated routes for World Cup competitions I have never been to Albania personally, so I don't know the country at all. I have been in southern Croatia, though, and there are mountains there but you definitely can't ski there (I was there in the summer, but it's also impossible in the winter). World cup taking place there only in Zagreb.    In general the case of Colturi and Kostelic is completely different: Colturi has no ties to Albania and Janica Kostelic was Croatian and didn't left their country even though at the beginning of her carrier (and also her brother Ivica) her father had to pay for everything and the federation's support was zero. This only changed later. I imagine that the Kostelic family had offers from other countries (Austria, Switzerland, Italy?) to compete for them, which were much richer (at the beginning of the 21st century Croatia was a very poor country and devastated by war). All the more respect for them because they were true Croatian patriots until the end. I can imagine the Colturi family in a similar situation... Her mother would probably negotiate with half of Alpine Europe for Lara to compete for them Which of course doesn't change the fact that the Italian federation completely gave a shit in this situation. They let such talent go in a situation where they hasn`t a single female athlete on the podium of the World Cup in slalom for a dozen or so years. In the giant slalom it's not much better either, only there the older athletes cloud the picture: Brignone and Bassino. However, behind these two there is absolutely nothing...
    • Atalanta is probably playing the most beautiful football in Europe right now: spectacular and effective. It's nice to watch and they don't have to spend a lot of money for it.   Inter is playing very economically. It's not impressive but it's consistently collecting points. It's also the only team in the Champions League that hasn't conceded a goal this season.   Milan played very poorly yesterday but they won. They have 9 points and are close to qualifying for the play-offs.
