So 9 of the 10 teams official rosters are known and registered. The only missing one is :SUI

They received a special exception and can announce their final 25 roster tomorrow before the start of the tournament.

The reason is obvious. Covid...

A player from the Swiss U20 national team has been tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, December 23. The entire team then had to go into quarantine, which is why Switzerland's only World Cup preparatory game against the Czech Republic, scheduled for Thursday, could not take place. Head coach Marco Bayer's team was able to leave the quarantine on Christmas Day, December 25th, and resume training. Two players remain in isolation.

Power Rankings

There’s a first time for everything, and we’re excited to bring you a special limited edition of the Power Rankings at the IIHF World Junior Championship for the very first time! Starting out in first place are coach Nate Leaman’s Americans, who aspire to win back-to-back gold medals on Edmonton ice. The ever-dangerous host Canadians sit second, while 2021 bronze medalist Finland is third.

1 usa.png USA Every goal will be Zegras-to-Milano style
2 can.png CAN Silver bells, silver bells, it’s Christmas time :roflmao:
3 fin.png FIN We’re the best at jumping into frozen lakes
4 swe.png SWE Yay! No more round-robin win streak! :p
5 rus.png RUS Our coach is more famous than your coach :d
6 cze.png CZE We call Edmonton “Mrazektown”
7 ger.png GER “Hi Leon! Can you shave and get a fake ID?”
8 svk.png SVK Experts predict another bronze medal in 2031 :p
9 sui.png SUI Losing the final to Sweden would be lovely :p
10 aut.png AUT Can we go to the West Edmonton Mall?

The Power Rankings are for the enjoyment of IIHF.com readers, and reflect the progress of teams during the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. They are distinct from the official standings and IIHF World Ranking.

Fresh News !

No team will be relegated this year ! Next year tournament will be played with 11 teams .

No team relegated at World Juniors

The IIHF Council has voted that no team will be relegated from the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship that will begin today in Edmonton and Red Deer, Canada to safeguard the sportive integrity of the competition in the light of the extraordinary Covid-related circumstances.

Due to Belarus gaining promotion after winning the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division I Group A earlier this month, the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship will be played with 11 teams with the aim of going back to 10 teams for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The IIHF will start discussions concerning the logistical implementation of hosting 11 teams at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship in Novosibirsk and Omsk, Russia with the organizing committee.

The task of creating an 11-team format and game schedule has been given to the IIHF Competition Committee along with any other implications for the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship program.

Absolutely no idea, which format you need to have a 11 team tournament

They want to return to 10 team tourney the next year 2024 so 2 teams will have to be relegated next year I assume, but how about the format ? Just hope they are not going to implement some pre-round and main round with top seeded nations or something like that...

Meanwhile :SWE already 3-0 against :RUS
