Based on recent results, it's no surprise that Japan and Bahrain made the final and that Japan won. Congrats to them. They're the best team in Asia now, so their qualification is completely deserved.
Qatar's team barely won against Iraq twice last July (24-23 and 24-21) and lost to Argentina (22-26) at the World Championships in January, which is a team they would've beaten easily during their peak years. They're not as good anymore as they used to be a couple years ago.
Great to see the Faroe Islands, Greece and Georgia make their debut!

received a wildcard.
These will be the first World Championships for the Dutch men’s team since 1961
Our first, second and third keeper tested positive for COVID as well as our head coach and four field players
Now the main round. Four more matches for the Dutch team against
The only realistic hope for a win is maybe against
Three very intense matches, but is through to the main round for the first time in history!
close to at least a tie against
after the win against
Still a 29-28 loss isn’t that bad for this team.
What an intense second half

Not sure if there were any non-European countries who submitted a bid for any of these events.

World Champion and qualified for the Olympics! Still can’t believe it!
So many times during these championships I thought we were going to be eliminated. After our loss against Denmark, against Germany and even after losing against Slovenia during our first match. When we miraculously made the semis I thought we would finish fourth for sure.
After so many top 4 spots at major championships in a row but without a title, they finally won!
Aah. It’s a new rule, there needs to be 3m distance.
What an anticlimactic end of the match! Was that call correct? Does anyone know what the rule is? She wasn’t inside the circle right?
Congratulations . Wasn't able to watch the match, but that final score looks impressive.
Should be an exciting final on Sunday. No idea who will win that one. Both teams have never won the World Championships, so there will most likely be a lot of nerves on either side.
I expected a -
final
. So I won't share my predictions for next Sunday.
What just happened?!
A final, so direct Olympic qualification or an almost guaranteed spot at the Olympics!
The Dutch semi-final streak continues:
- 2015 World Championships - Silver medal
- 2016 Olympic Games - 4th place
- 2016 European Championships - Silver medal
- 2017 World Championships - Bronze medal
- 2018 European Championships - Bronze medal
- 2019 World Championships - at least the semi-finals
Prior to 2015 we never even made it to the semi-finals. 2016 was also the very first Olympics we qualified for.
I'm at work and I started watching the -
match, but when I saw they were 5 goals down, I turned it off because my computer was very slow and I was working with some big data.
When I looked at the results at the end of the match I was so shocked. Going through to the Main Round with 4 points after losing the first match against by quite a margin
Didn't expect this victory over Serbia. is now safe and will go through to the main round.
For the Dutch a lot depends on the match between and
tomorrow. If
wins, then
will go through to the next round with 2 points, otherwise with zero, because it's not realistic to think that the Dutch will win against
tomorrow. They've never won against the Norwegians.
There is a realistic chance will go through to the next round:
-
still has to play against
and
. With the way the Dutch have been playing so far, I expect two losses, resulting in a total of 4 points for the Dutch team.
-
still has to play
and
.
will win against
, but
should be too strong. In that case Slovenia will also end up with a total of 4 points.
-
plays against
and
In case they win against
and lose against
Angola will also finish the group stage with 4 points.
has the best head to head against
and
and will finish in 3rd in that case.
First time ever qualifies for a European Championships after beating Latvia today. Was quite surprised by this fact, especially when you consider that the women made at least the semis in all large championships during the past 4 years.
ExpandSwedish national team player, Louise Sand, has chosen to stop her career at the age of just 26 years. In a podcast, Louise Sand tells that she has experienced gender dysphoria that can occur when you experience inconsistencies between the original/ biological gender and the gender a person experience.
- I've had it bad lately, and I know what has caused it. I was born in the wrong body. I have never seen myself as a public person, but I fell this can't go under the radar. Therefore, I choose to tell it in my own way and in my own words. If an ordinary 26-year-old had told about gender dysphoria, it would most likely have gone unnoticed. I hope you all understand and respect my decision. Now it's time to live my life how I want to, she says.
I don't think anyone is surprised as Sand has always looked quite masculine. Good for them that they are open about it.
ExpandYeah, I saw the hit on the replay. So, is she out of the tournament now?
No, she might be back tomorrow. She had no concussion, but a migraine attack.

Not unexpected at all indeed. Anything but
winning the quota would be a surprise.
