Can't argue McIntosh and Katzberg
I was thinking they might go with Katzberg and Rogers and save McIntosh for LA28 opening ceremony. With Swimming moving to week 2 for that one, there wouldn't be any scheduling conflicts, and seeing she already went home.
What really impressed me was not just the total medals, but the breadth.
We won medals in fencing, pole vault, boxing, hammer... stuff we never done before, or haven't done in forever. And even in a wide variety of stuff that we've had occasional successes in.
And the nice thing is there is still room for improvement. Looking forward to LA28!

Sanford is baked in. Katzberg, Rogers and Mitton are good bets in athletics. Breaking and Vincent/Mackenzie in C2 as well. So that's at least six highly likelies.
Then we have a lot of toss ups too. 3x3, men's basketball, C1, Arop, 4x100, a couple events in track cycling, etc... and a whole mess of minor threats. If the toss ups convert around 50% and one or two of the minor threats pay off, we're there.
There will be disappointments too of course, but it tends to average out.
ExpandI agree. There’s absolutely no way we’re winning over 28-29 (I believe that was his projection?), unless one or two of Warner/FAA medaled today and the women’s soccer advanced to the medal rounds.

It's more an indication that our conversion rate in the first half was probably at the high end... it tends to level out over time, so the second half may not be as kind
That's also assuming my projections are accurate, and not just an exercise in my willingness to be wrong publicly

ExpandCanada should have had gold and bronze in 2012, but they gave the bronze to the Chinese girl who fell. It was stupid.
Cheryl Gibson and Becky Smith got silver and bronze in the 400 IM in Montreal 1976. I had to look up their names, but I remember seeing a double medal in Montreal.

Still wild it's been that long
ExpandI’ve watched all three Canadian men’s volleyball matches (and a couple of others), and 90% of the time it reminds me of what happened to our women’s volleyball team at VNL. No, I’m not going to stop talking about almost two months later…
At least we spoiled Serbia's chance to advance.

For some-reason I thought we did it in trampoline once, but evidently not.

ExpandReally hard to know when a swimmer will peak. You have people like Penny and Ruck who peaked as teenagers, and then on the complete opposite side you have people like Wilm who peak in their mid 20s.
We all assume Summer will get better, but these *could* be her best Olympics. Or just a prelude to how good she’ll be at 21. It’s impossible to predict.
Summer seems a lot more prepared for success than Penny.
Penny was suddenly thrown in the deep end with surprise success in Rio, and had a hard time dealing with everything that came with the sudden fame... Summer seems almost nonplus about it. Then again, those around her seem to have been preparing her for it since she was a kid
Ruck, I have no idea about. Like I said before, she's a mystery wrapped in an enigma. The occasional flashes of brilliance make the rest of the time so frustrating.

ExpandAbsolutely not sorry. FAA drags everyone he plays with down, and his season has been so piss poor that I’d be surprised to see him win more than a couple of matches here. I’d say Fernandez (or a lesser chance with Fernandez/Dabrowski in doubles, Dabrowski is mediocre on clay)

It does for women. 1 basic quota + 2 quota places for 11th-20th place is the same. But the allocation of the remaining quota places ends at 16th place for women as of today, with Poland gaining one more spot while Ukraine none. -

Sweden with a great surge after 6th place yesterday. Moved up from 13th to 9th with 203 points, despite the OMRRL standings at the ISMF website saying something else.

Poland overtook Ukraine for the 16th place in the women's standings yesterday. Nobody from these countries starts today so it's Poland that is the last country with 4 quota places confirmed.

Don't follow the junior ranks much, but at the Olympics trials there were a couple U20 women sprinters, Jorai Oppong-Nketiah and Alexia Jones, that look to have a lot of potential
