Quota places are allocated to the athlete(s) by name.

The maximum number of athletes per NOC is 3 per gender, with maximum 1 per event. The maximum number of athletes per event is 12.

If a NOC has more than three (3) athletes in one gender who are eligble to receive quota places, then the NOC will decide which of these athletes will receive the quota places, respecting the maximum number of athletes per NOC per event.

The IWF will be publishing the Olympic Qualification Ranking (OQR) including one athlete per Olympic bodyweight categories per NOC with the highest Totals (in kilograms).

The Olympic Qualification Ranking will be collated from the official results from the following IWF international events:

The highest Total achieved by each athlete in the events outlined aboce, shall be counted towards their overall ranking.

At maximum, one (1) athlete per NOC shall be ranked on the Olympic Qualification Ranking, which would be the highest ranked athlete per NOC, in each bodyweight category to be contested at Olympic Games Paris 2024.

In the circumstances that two, or more, athletes record the same Total in the same Olympic bodyweight category they shall be ranked in order of which achieved the result first, using equivalent Greenwich Mean Times (GMT) to decide such if necessary.

Following the end of the qualification period the highest OQR ranked then (10) athletes in each event to be contested at Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be allocated a quota place.

If an athlete is ranked in the top ten (10) in more than one event in the Olympic Qualification Ranking, then the athlete's NOC in consultation with the Member Federation (MF), as recognised by the IWF, must declare to the IWF by 10 May 2024, and the athlete will then be removed from the OQR in other bodyweight categories. Any freed ranking position due to declaration of competing in another event will then automatically move to the next highest ranked eligible athlete.

Should an NOC record more than three (3) athletes per gender from different weight categories in the Olympic Qualification Ranking then the relevant NOC in consultation with the MF must declare to the IWF by 22 May 2024 which of these athletes shall be allotted the quota places. Any athletes not so declared will then be removed from the Olympic Qualification Ranking. Any declited ranking positions and quota places will then automatically move to the next highest ranked eligible athlete from an NOC which has not used its three quota places.

The qualification period for the Olympic Qualification Ranking shall begin on 01 August 2022 and conclude on 28 April 2024.

To achieve the widest possible representation across the IWF recognised Continental Federations (Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, Pan America) one quota place will be distributed to each Olympic bodyweight category using the Olympic Qualification Ranking and the following criteria

    • The highest ranked eligible athlete of a boydweight category represeting an NOC that its Continent is not already represented in the Top 10 of her/his boydweight category, will be allocated a quota place
    • In case more than one Continent is not represented in the Top 10 of a bodyweight category, then the highest ranked eligible athlete of this bodyweigtht category  representing an NOC of these Continents will be allocated a quota place.
    • If in any Olympic bodyweight category the Continental representation is already achieved, then the Continental quota place will be reallocated.
