Just one last and final touch in the Team. The Skating federation finally announced the name of our sole representative in Short Track return at the Olympics And it will be the 18 years old Lea Popovičová who will compete for us in the W 500m Team 52 Athletes (36 M + 16 W)

V šortreku nás bude reprezentovať Popovičová. Zväz rozhodoval medzi dvomi menami Slovenská šortrekárka Lea Popovičová bude reprezentovať Slovensko na nadchádzajúcich ZOH v Taliansku (6.- 22 februára). Rozhodol o tom Slovenský zväz rýchlokorčuľovania, ktorý mal k dispozícii jednu miestenku od Medzinárodnej korčuliarskej únie (ISU). Popovičovú zvolil na základe lepších výsledkov než v nedávnom období dosiahla ďalšia adeptka Tamara Tokárová. Osemnásťročná Popovičová sa počas uplynulého víkendu predstavila na ME v holandskom Tilburgu na 500 a aj na 1500 m trati. Ani v jednom prípade sa napokon nedostala do finále. Ešte pred ZOH by mala absolvovať MS juniorov. „Keďže sa nominovaná pretekárka s najväčšou pravdepodobnosťou predstaví na tratiach 500 m aj 1500 m, brali sme do úvahy výsledky všetkých disciplín spolu, celkovo 12 disciplín,“ uviedol SRZ v oficiálnom vyhlásení, v ktorom vysvetlil dôvody nominácie Popovičovej pred Tokárovou. Popovičová mala vyšší počet lepších umiestnení (9:3), celkový bodový zisk (1021:632) a aj lepší dosiahnutý čas na 500 m trati (44,79 : 45,46)

Slovensko premiérovo na ZOH v Skikrose Naša výprava tak predsa bude mať 52 športovcov Slovensko bude mať na zimných olympijských hrách v Miláne a Cortine d'Ampezzo zastúpenie aj v akrobatickom lyžovaní. Miestenku na ZOH získala reprezentantka v skikrose Nikola Fričová na základe realokácie nevyužitých kvót Medzinárodnej lyžiarskej a snoubordovej federácie (FIS). V kvalifikačnom období splnila nominačné kritériá Zväzu slovenského lyžovania (ZSL) a FIS. Dvadsaťpäťročná skikrosárka štartovala v aktuálnej sezóne vo viacerých pretekoch Svetového pohára, jej najlepším výsledkom bolo 28. miesto v talianskom Innichene. Paralelne pravidelne bodovala v Európskom pohári, kde sa v sezóne 2024/2025 opakovane umiestnila v najlepšej desiatke. Výrazným momentom jej doterajšej kariéry je zisk striebornej medaily v skikrose na zimnej univerziáde v Lake Placid. Okrem zimných disciplín je Fričová aj držiteľkou krištáľového glóbusu v lyžovaní na tráve z roku 2021, keď ovládla celkové poradie Svetového pohára.
