  1. MEN´S UNDER 18 DIVISION III GROUP A 2018 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Belgium bounces back U18s book immediate return to Division II B Belgium’s under-18 national team made an instant return to Division IIB after taking top spot in this week’s 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division III Group A that took place in Erzurum in the east of Turkey. But it took a late goal from Ben Coolen – his fifth of the tournament – to claim a vital victory over Israel and deny Mexico a second successive promotion. Going into Sunday’s games, four teams had at least a theoretical chance of top spot. Belgium and Mexico were out in front, but Israel and Turkey could still force a three-way tie on nine points if results went their way. The Mexicans were in action first, and a solid 5-2 victory over Chinese Taipei condemned the Asian team to relegation while ending Israel’s hopes of moving up. That did not stop the Israelis from giving Belgium a stern test, though. Midway through the first period, captain Yuval Halpert stole the puck away from a Belgian D-man on the doorstep and turned to fire the opening goal past Arne Waumans. However, it took less than two minutes for the Belgians to get back on track when Akke Klijsen shot home from close range to tie the game. Subsequently, the bulk of the action was around the Israeli net. Belgium had the better of the chances, but struggled to really test Israel’s goalie Yehonatan Reisinger. He ended the tournament as the top-ranked goalie, with a save percentage of 94.2% after allowing eight goals in the four games he played. The third-period even brought Israel opportunities to forge ahead once again as the team enjoyed three power plays but failing to convert. Over the course of the tournament, the Israeli power play was the least effective in the competition, managing just two goals for a conversion rate of 6.67 per cent. That left the game tied going into the final minutes and meant Mexico had one skate in Division II: an overtime win for Belgium would put the two teams level on 11 points, and the Mexicans had a 3-2 victory from their meeting on Friday which would give them the edge in a tie. Then came Coolen. The 17-year-old forward from the HYC Herentals club in the BeNeLiga came into this tournament after a handy contribution to Belgium’s U20 IIB campaign, and made the key play here. He chased a Jeffie Versin clearance down the ice, won a clash with Israel’s Shahar Lavon on the blue line and swooped in on the net to score the decisive goal with a little over four minutes to play. Delight for Belgium, despair for Mexico: the winners admitted that their evening had been a rather more stressful than they had hoped. Coolen finished the tournament with 10 (5+5) points, sharing first place in the scoring charts with Bulgaria’s Konstantin Rangelov and the competition’s top goal scorer, Luis Cruz of Mexico. The Belgian was also selected as the top forward by the tournament directorate, with Gonzalo Hagerman of Mexico getting the award for best defenceman and home goalie Muhammet Mutanoglu completing the prize winners. There was still something riding on the final game of the day – Turkey could not challenge for top spot but had the chance to finish with a bronze medal if it could defeat Bulgaria in front of its home crowd in Erzurum. However, the host missed out in a 1-3 loss. Bulgaria took third place with Israel edging the Turks for fourth thanks to a 2-0 victory when the nations met on the opening day of the competition. 7. Mexico Belgium defeated Israel by a goal 5 minutes to go and earn gold and promotion, hard luck for Mexico. @mrv86 your boys did everything but unfortunately missed it by just a few, one single point a draw with Turkey or regulation time win instead of OT over Israel would be enough, too costly one point

  9. Foz do Iguacu all the way, just because it would be great for our delegation to stay in a place marked by so many successes of Slovak sport but we´ll be ok with all places, considering the all worries if we´ll even arrive at time ..
  10. yes, I never said the opposite how else you would have a slovak medal in this sport ? only if the opponents are more or less beatable, and knowing where we belong in this sport, I am perfectly identified with the fact that the level here had to be extremely low but still nice to see a medal who know, it may also help funding
  11. Sure, Strangest things happened, but medal for SVK in this sport is definitely quite something Former U23 total European Champion Matej Kováč certainly the biggest SVK talent since Martin Tešovič, won Bronze in -105kg C&J. the bronze medal attempt in the video In overall some interesting results from our young athletes here, Matej Kováč bronze, the junior Nikola Seničová finished 6th overall in -90 W ! (8th in snatch and 5th in C&J - competed in B group), former doper Karol Samko finished only 1kg out of medal 4th in -85kg total (8th in snatch and 4th in C&J), Richard Tkáč in the same event was 8th in total (8th + 8th) looks like this sport is not definitely dead after all in the country yet..

  14. MEN´S UNDER 18 DIVISION II GROUP B 2018 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spain celebrates triple gold Men’s U18s triumph in Zagreb Spanish hockey is celebrating an unprecedented haul of three gold medals this season, following the success of the u18 roster at the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B in Zagreb, Croatia. The team topped the six-team pool, securing promotion to the Division II Group A with a convincing 4-1 victory over the host in Friday’s decisive encounter. That means Spain’s teams have taken gold in three of the four World Championships they’ve contested this year, with the men’s U20s winning the Division II Group B in Belgrade back in January – again thanks to a final-day win over Croatia – and the women’s senior roster sweeping all-comers to clinch the Division IIB on home ice in Valdemoro just over a week ago. What a change it was after all the silver medals last year. For Frank Gonzalez, president of the Spanish Ice Sports Federation, this run of success is proof that hockey can thrive in nations far from the heartland of the game. “For us, this feels like a miracle,” he said. “We’re here in the southernmost point of Europe, and we’re showing that we can compete against countries with a real tradition and culture in ice hockey. We’re still a long way from competing at the elite level, but the work of all our teams deserves a lot of credit.” In Zagreb, the Spanish were dominant throughout the competition. Although Friday’s match-up against Croatia was a tournament decider, Spain held a three-point advantage over the host and knew that anything short of a defeat in regulation would secure top spot. In the event, Timo Tuomi’s youngsters eased to victory. A first-period goal from Marc Layola settled the nerves after a bright start from Croatia kept goalie Raul Barbo busy. Then second-period tallies from Pablo Zaballa and Liam O’Hare – one shorthanded, the other on the power play – put the game out of Croatia’s reach. The teams traded goals late in the final stanza, with Sergio Sarasa extending Spain’s lead before a power-play goal from Leo Selitaj gave the host some consolation. And there was more satisfaction for Croatia when it claimed second place, edging ahead of local rival Serbia thanks to a 2-1 win when the teams met on the opening day. Goalie Domagoj Troha, named as the best netminder of the competition, said: “I am very proud of all our players and coaches. We created some chances that we couldn’t take, but to finish with silver medals around our necks is a miracle.” China missed out on a medal after losing 0-4 to Serbia in its last game, but forward Jing Wang ended as the tournament’s top goal scorer with seven markers. A 1-3 loss against the Netherlands on Friday condemned Iceland to relegation after the team managed just one point from its five games. But the tournament was all about Spain. Undefeated in five games, with only a shootout win over Serbia denting a perfect record, the Spanish thrived thanks to a powerful offence that produced 27 goals in five games. An opening 8-3 defeat of Iceland set the tone, and after that nerve-jangler against Serbia, there were more high-scoring wins – 7-3 against China, 5-4 against the Dutch. Part of Spain’s success involves looking beyond its borders. Coach Tuomi brings a wealth of experience from the Finnish leagues, and has been part of the Spanish national development program since 2010/11. He’s backed up by Italy’s Maurizio Mansi and Lars Lisspers of Sweden. Increasingly, players are also gaining experience overseas: four of this year’s u18 roster represented clubs outside of Spain, including O’Hare from the Ontario Hockey Academy and Florida Eels D-man Jaime Moreno. Then there’s David Mateo, a Czech dual national who plays for the Okanagan Academy in Britain and captain Aron Sarmiento, who plays in Switzerland with Innerschwyz Future. Sarmiento was named as the top defenceman of the tournament, while O’Hare’s nine points put him equal third on the scoring charts behind Zaballa and his captain. The pool of Spanish talent, and the experience available to the country’s young players, is steadily growing. Spain’s gold rush may not be over just yet. At the end of April the country hosts Division IIB of the senior men’s World Championship in Granada. And, in the longer term, there are plans to continue developing the game. Recent years have seen several new or redeveloped rinks open their doors across the country. Now, proposals are in place to build a Centre of Excellence in Barcelona, with two hockey pads and a curling centre, and this year’s success on the ice will hopefully make it easier to attract funding for that project. The Ship with Slovak delegation just landed in Madeira yes, I know..still long road to go,...hopefully we´ll be there at time (and personally I hope we are in the good direction as well ) and fit...because, honestly, this sailing doesn´t exactly do well to some members of our mini-team at all....but you know limited budget but back to topic.. there rumors that the team leader will use this todays stay to send the votes, since few peoples will go to visit the CR7 museum, some others that don´t really follow football will try to find some local internet cafe or so to officially send the votes all in all..you can expect our votes in few hours, if not...then something went horribly wrong then ..
