  1. These officers should be fired immediately.
  2. What the actual fuck.
  3. Police have shot one journalist with a rubber bullet in the eye in Minneapolis. The have arrested another journalist as well, after he identified himself as a journalist and asked the officers where they wanted him to go. The NYPD also took a break from beating the shit out of protestors to arrest two journalists as well. I will not tolerate this type of behavior. I’m seriously considering protesting tomorrow.
  4. I have never seen anything like this in the United States since I’ve been alive. I honestly have no clue where the country goes from here. We don’t have strong leaders to guide us through this mess. I thought this would all die down, but it’s not happening. There are violent going down in almost every state tonight. I have no clue what tomorrow holds.
  5. If you want to know a little more about what led to the anger that incited all these protests, here’s a good thread:
  6. Protests in Berlin, London, and Toronto today as well.
  7. There’s a pattern with all these protests. They always start 100% peaceful. People march in peace for an hour or two, and then police show up in full riot gear with weapons at that ready. People take that as a threat, and then all hell breaks lose. Obviously the rioters then show up and are rewarded with the chaotic situation. Both sides are clearly in the wrong, but police our demonstrating in nearly every town why we need reform.
  8. You are very, very, very correct about one thing. Interestingly, the two political parties have largely remained silent in all of this. It’s become more of a minorities v. police/white nationalist issue. I just honestly don’t see how anyone could blame the left for any of this. We’ve advocated for policy changes for years, and right has acted as a roadblock. The only people I’ve seen “spinning” this situation are the ones that don’t understand it, so it might be wise if you do your research.
  9. It’s not a disaster for Democrats. No one is really blaming them for the violence. Also, we didn’t lock down to stick it to Trump, we locked down to stay safe (of course upsetting Trump was a nice side effect). If you would have watched his full press conference, you would have seen the part where he said the Minnesota government believes (based off the people they’ve arrested on the streets) the majority of rioters are of out state white nationalists and far-right groups trying to incite violence. Support from most decent Americans is still firmly behind the BLM cause, even if they agree the riots have gotten out of control.
  10. Iceland’s isolationist policies, low population density, and immediate contract tracing techniques can be attributed to their success. I think country’s with a high population density can fight the virus well too, but I would imagine it does help to have a small population that doesn’t live right on top of each other.
  11. Protests have already broken out once again this morning. I think today’s will be much more peaceful (and see higher attendance), but with a the possibility of a transition to violence in the evening (since that has been the trend).
  12. And the award for the most tone deaf tweet of the week goes to...
  13. Yes, we do. We seem to have an okay relationship with Lebanon as well.
  14. U.S. conservatives complain that social media companies unfairly “censor” their opinions. However, a lot of the people complaining post some crazy shit all the time, so it seems fair for these companies to censor it.
  15. Everything I said in that particular post is defended by our free speech laws.
  16. They uploaded all the Sochi 2014 replays about 1/2 months before Pyeongchang2018. Maybe they’ll do similar for Rio? Hopefully we at least get all the Tokyo replays like we did for Pyeongchang.
  17. Trump has basically told his supporters to rally at the White House tonight. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some violent clashes, if protestors show up again. Trump’s been really good at just grabbing full tanks of gasoline, and throwing them right on that fire.
  18. It’s one of the two worst towns in California. TV shows in the U.S. use as a punch for “things could be worse.”
  19. My town is not immune to the protests either. Our local police shot and killed a man about 2 miles from house a few hours ago. Right now, the details of incident are really murky. Police claim he had a gun, some people claim he was blind, and no one seems to know what race he was. Nonetheless people arrived at the scene to protest. It sounds like it’s remained largely peaceful, but I can still here the police helicopter flying overhead.
  20. We also had a car attempt to drive full speed through a crowd protestors in Bakersfield, California today as well. There still remains rather large support for protestors in spite of all the looting and violence.
  21. Why? I didn’t even know this was being considered.
  22. Rough night. Looting, riots, and fires in cities all over the country. Apparently there are larger gatherings planned in some cities tomorrow. Journalists have once again been targeted by police.
  23. I just realized this comes from a extremely biased right-wing source. Antifa is not involved in these protests in particular. Apparently this guy as “attacked” by some a while back, and has a personal vendetta against the group that clearly plagues his reporting (which I learned upon doing some fact-checking on him).
  24. Complicated and tense situation ongoing at the D.C protest right outside the White House.
  25. To the shock of absolutely no one, violent protests have broken out across the U.S. tonight. They’re not as bad as what we saw in Minneapolis, but it’s tense times for a lot of people in the U.S. I watched my old high school classmates just cannibalize each other on social media today (which was fantastic entertainment honestly). I think this will die down slowly by the end of the weekend.
