  1. I didn't even know there was such a thing in cross country skiing I assumed double-poling was totally fine anywhere on the course.
  2. There were 21(!) jury decisions in this event. I don't remember ever seeing that many for one event: https://olympics.com/gangwon-2024/static/yog24d-/pdf/YOG24D-/CCS/YOG24D-_CCS_C73A_CCSW7.5KMIS-----------FNL-000100--.pdf There were so many they had to put out a correction after confusing a few cases: https://olympics.com/gangwon-2024/static/yog24d-/pdf/YOG24D-/CCS/YOG24D-_CCS_C67_CCSW7.5KMIS-----------------------1.pdf Have you ever seen something like this @heywoodu?
  3. I had a teammate on my university frisbee team with that name. He got tired of people trying to pronounce the proper name, so he also went by “ATL”
  4. The USOPC has released a statement from their CEO saying that the United States will be awarded the gold medal in the team event by the IOC.
  5. Yeah, the back half of the schedule definitely feels more empty
  6. I'm absolutely in favor of doing the official ceremony during the opening ceremony.
  7. Interestingly, CAS cited Russian Anti-Doping Rules, which don't provide any additional protection from consequences for "protected persons," as much of the basis for their ruling.
  8. If it's up to the IOC, there probably won't be anymore news until their EB Meeting in March (at least, that's the theory I've read).
  9. Do they cut to Swift a little too much or too often? Probably. Does it ruin my ability to watch the game? Not really. People need to chill about the situation.
  10. Yeah, tough tournament for your team. Hopefully they can win the 5th place match.
  11. Made the mistake of reading comments on the figure skating streams from last night
  12. He just needed to cruise for a few laps (when they were all standing after the 1st sprint) and turn the jets back on for the final 2-3 laps.
  13. I think that's exactly the kind of move that could work at the YOG. Yang pulled it off in the short track 1500m.
  14. Imagine going through all the qualifications to become a tennis umpire, only to be shown the bird by a 13 year-old Hopefully this is a learning experience for the kid. I didn’t share the clip to poke fun a him. I vividly remember flipping off parents during high school cross country races, but thankfully those weren’t as public as this.
  15. Great photo from the men's ski cross event: https://oisphotos.com/groupitem/10173/
  16. Rolex 24 at Daytona is underway. I haven't been following it much, but apparently there's been 6(!) wrecks in the first 1 1/2 hours I've always liked this race. I was a huge motorsports fan growing up, and this race always signaled the new year. Unfortunately, I kind of grew out of motorsports once I got into international sports.
  17. The Pan American Games were probably just about the perfect size event for Santiago, and those were not held without hiccups. I agree they did a nice job, but I don't think the city can handle an undertaking as strenuous as the Olympics.
  18. I actually like the Olympics being the only four run competition. It makes it very unique.
  19. I don't mind the timed distances really. It helps distinguish the discipline from short track and inline. I just think they shouldn't use individual times as the barometer for every event. It's okay to have some head-to-head stuff too. The mass start remains one of the dumbest (in my opinion) formatted events in international sports. It should a straight race, or use a points format similar to inline skating or track cycling. I don't think speed skating needs a elimination race.
  20. Right, and I'm fine with a slow day here or there in schedule (everyone needs to catch their breathe after all, and logistics needs to be considered), but two in a row really kills the pace and flow of the schedule.
