  1. It's still definitely not impossible
  2. Because they haven't played well at all for the past few years (sure, they got a Euro gold), and got below even that level in Tokyo. World rankings don't mean much and the World Cup was already three years ago and was more of a unexpectedly good result than anything else.
  3. First time since 1984 the Dutch men don't make the semis in the Olympics. And it was not at all undeserved, they were by far not good enough.
  4. I believe the team had said she wanted to look at it on a day-by-day basis.
  5. Shootouts for a spot in the semi's, not feeling confident about that at all, but it's already quite the performance they got this far after the very bad group phase..
  6. And last but not least, after months/years of speculation about which two distances she'll run at the Olympics and which one of the three she's registered for she will drop, she has made her decision and will run the 5000m and 1500m.
  7. What was with Zalewski btw? Legs just too full after yesterday or something else?
  8. After 106 attempts there's finally a scored PC for the Dutch men
  9. Wow, rarely have I seen anyone throw away a chance in such an idiotic way as Ross did
  10. Ah yeah, forgot about that. Now I agree with you
  11. What did he do, other than not wanting the vaccine but at least for a somewhat understandable reason for an athlete?
  12. Every event has a few specialists at least, but that doesn't mean it's really different enough to warrant such a huge number of realistically available medals per swimmer.
  13. Even more controversial: instead of leaving 100 and 800, I'd go for leaving 50 but throwing out 100 in favor of 200. And keep 1500 instead of 800. That way you have a true sprint, a true middle event and a true distance event.
  14. New gold for these guys we've been watching all week, alright. WR and all. On to the next sport please
  15. Theoretically? We could do with one breaststroke, one backstroke and one butterfly event, for starters.
  16. Anyone else feel like so many of these medals are sort of forgettable, since mostly we're watching the same names fight for them the whole week (unlike in athletes, where you see totally different names in most events)? I mean, I've watched basically every final live and with focus but I had already forgotten McKeon actually took the 50 + 100 freestyle double
  17. Campbell with some major risk there to throw it all away
  18. Sure, but it's still not as lobsided as it was in Rio (with the Netherlands only being there because of the two open water golds, which one really shouldn't count too much - if at all - in this context)
  19. Non-gold medals like this are so much better than gold medals like Dressel's.
  20. The 'bright' side though is that USA is much less dominant than four years ago.
  21. He has been sick though, to be fair (mono, if I'm not mistaken).
