That's incorrect, but it is indeed what a lot of people falsely think And yes, there's quite a lot of people in WEC who can't buy themselves an F1 seat. Not being able to buy yourself an F1 seat doesn't say that much about your actual talent and potential and the whole buying yourself a seat thing is why there are quite some F1 drivers who aren't among the 20 best drivers in the world.

I don't think one series has 'the best' drivers. Some of the world's best are in F1, some are in IndyCar or NASCAR, others are in WEC and so on.

F1 is overrated as 'best class' anyway. The cars might be the best, only a handful of drivers is actually among the best.
