  1. Considering how difficult it is to qualify in this sport, I think it's pretty remarkable that from 1980 onwards, only missed the 2000 Olympics in men's basketball. 11 out of the last 12. Only and have a perfect record. In Europe the closest team is , that competed in 7 out of 8 Olympics after the independence. Let's see if they make it 8 out of 9 in a few hours.
  2. I don't think that's going to happen. If you asked me last year I saw a good chance for Aday Mara or even Izan Almansa to make the cut, but this season Aday joined UCLA and, as far as I know, he didn't play very often.
  3. Goal achieved! We are far from our top level in 2008-2012 and probably won't make it to the QF, but at least we managed to qualify and Rudy Fernández will play his 6th and last Olympics.
  4. Last minute change in line-up for the Men Singles: OUT Pablo Carreño IN Pedro Martínez Pablo Carreño will still play in Doubles with Marcel Granollers.
  5. Granollers and Sorribes for (not official yet).
  6. is probably better than in sabre, but Italian girls are stronger under pressure. We medaled in the 1st event of the OQR and after that we lost 44-45 against at Euros and 44-45 against at Worlds. This season we were paired four times in a row with in T8, so no option of making it to the final. The only time when we didn't face in T8 was the last event of the season, with the OQR already finished, and I think we took silver, but it was too late. In epee there were 4 teams with similar level fighting for the European spot []. We made it to SFs in the first OQR World Cup, but after that we lost 32-37 against at Euros (expected, but we had our chances during the match) and 43-44 against at Worlds. Fortunately the other European teams didn't have great performances and we still had a chance, but during the summer our top guy Yulen Pereira broke his wrist and even after he came back, his level was not as good as it used to be.
  7. That's funny considering we only had two team medals in European Championships until today and last one was 10 years ago Unfortunately we failed to qualify for the Olympics which was the main goal. Both teams had enough level to make it, but as usual in Spanish fencing they underperformed when it mattered the most.
  8. The Spanish team has been announced and Paula Badosa wont't use her protected ranking. Singles: Carlos Alcaraz Rafael Nadal Pablo Carreño Alejandro Davidovich Sara Sorribes Cristina Bucsa Pairs: Carlos Alcaraz & Rafael Nadal Marcel Granollers & TBD Sara Sorribes & Cristina Bucsa The mixed pair will be decided during the Olympics and Jessica Bouzas will join the team if she receives a reallocation.
  9. But Cabo Verde has one foilist, Victor Álvares, that at the very least is top150. Not sure about his current ranking, but I remember he even made it to the second day of World Cups from time to time.
  10. Susana Fornaris retired from fencing last year due to an injury. Furthermore it's unlikely for a country to receive two invitations in the same sport, so Mali should only get one. Especially in their situation where both fencers were raised in France and train there, so there is no benefit for the development of the sport. And you are missing the most likely invitation which is given the good relationship between FIE and its national federation.
  11. I think you are missing Eifler in sabre with 58.5 points.
  12. I can do it if you want. I won't be available for the afternoon and not sure about the morning.
  13. There will be 8 Tripartite Invitations. If any of these 8 are not given (very likely to happen), the remaining will be distributed using the Olympic Ranking.
  14. You are already qualified! is currently Top4 and the only teams that can overtake you are . can only overtake you with a gold medal. If that happens, could only overtake you with a silver medal. In that case: 4th 288 (World spot) 5th 284 (Pan-Am spot) 6th 281 (European spot) If doesn't win the gold medal, they could only get 276 points and would be ahead in Top5 and spot guaranteed.
  15. That's true, but the only case where would miss out the Top5 is if takes the gold medal and silver. In this case, would overtake and make it to the Top4, granting the European spot.
  16. I think there is another very unlikely scenario in which takes the gold medal, silver and and loss their first match. If this happens, drops out of top4 and takes the Asian spot, does not make it to Top16 and can't take the Pan-Am spot and we would have a repechage spot between . But as I said, very difficult to happen. @Federer91 Unfortunately, I think the situation is not easy for because there is no way finishes ahead of .
  17. Yes, you can still pass Italy, but it's difficult. You need gold and 6th place or worse
  18. It is finished for . You are already qualified, congrats! That also means that Martín-Portugués and Gkountoura secure the individual spots, even though still has a very small chance to qualify as a team.
  19. I just did the maths and I think Gkountoura already secured the Greek spot, even if she loses in the round of 64 and Gkountoura takes the gold medal. Currently Georgiadou has 148 points instead of 154 and Gkountoura 174.
  20. Unless I'm missing something, is safe to get the Asian quota, the European, the American and the African, so the only chance of having the Repechage quota between is if misses the Top 16, and that does not seem very likely at the moment.
  21. Shocking result. First ever world medal of Spain in an Olympic event of this sport and first time competing in synchro at the Olympics!
