Joshi got a reaction from Dkats in Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 Medal Count
From a point of view a group of 17 athletes that walked away with 3 medals, 11 top 8s and 13 top 10s. Which is ok with a country that only has snow at one specific place for roughly 3 months of the year and isnt known for winter sports. The only blemish we got no golds which is a bit of a disappointment considering we got 2 last time round. But a lot more place getters, in that aspect it's never been better. We have lots of talent in the park and pipe but would love to diversify a little bit and grow the team. But other than that I thought Australia did really well and Brazil. So it's nice to see the Southern Hemisphere get medals, hopefully more in the near future.

I actually rather enjoy it but won't be surprised if it's gone at 2034 which is unfortunate. Or it'll stay because they'd add more events. I really do hope freeride is there in 2034, not only for the action but also for the panoramic views of mountains they go down.

We could say the same about non-European anglophone countries who want snowboard parallel slalom gone, not caring about that discipline.
Thankfully, Bulgaria and Korea won medals there, so it should be safe.

The Dutch have a long history in speed skating particularly long track where it's a national obsession a lot like Norway and XC skiing. They have over 100 yrs of it so it's tradition etc. With Korea and China not as dominant anymore in short track where its a bit of a lottery that became bonus territory regardless of them getting regular medals since 2014. But you could say it was a given that they'd eventually challenge in that discipline as well.

are currently sitting 3rd in the medal table & ALL of their medals have come from speed skating (short track included). Imagine this , getting 20 medals in just 1 sport ( 2 disciplines ) which has 23 medal events! That is utter dominance in any level of sports & to do that at olympic level regularly year after year is amazing. But it begs the question you can be in top 3 on the table by just focussing in one sports programme!
I don't think this level of dominance & its reflection in the medal table is possible in the summer games.
Perhaps WOG needs more competition & more countries to develop their programme to make it a truly global event!
I honestly don't know if I should celebrate this achievement or be sad that there is no competition for them.

The Dutch showing the way again. No mountains. Snow hardly lasts a week ends up 3rd on the medal table.

Couldn't agree more. Asian countries have performed exceptionally well in snowboarding this time. Japan, in particular, has shown extremely high competitiveness in many events. South Korea has also won 3 medals in snowboarding, which I could hardly have imagined before. What's more, Su Yiming's coach is also a very famous Japanese coach.

Hard to disagree, it'd be be nice though if over the years, both versions of the same events begin to differ more from each others.

Complete domination by the Japanese riders in all forms of park and pipe snowboarding for both men and women.
Whether people like it or not even though its a judged discipline park and pipe in both snowboarding and ski is here for the foreseeable future. Reason, geographic spread of medals. You just don't get that variety in other disciplines. Four continents have won medals for park and pipe in both board and ski. More than any other. As seen by results figure skating and short track (China/Korea) are probably the only winter sports bigger than park and pipe in East Asia. But that will perhaps change with Korea and China failing badly in Short Track.

What big air needs is to bring more style in the event. Spinning to win just isn't fun to watch really. I'd love to see huge 1080s with loads of amplitude and more grabs like the bloody Dracula etc. Landing a 2340 or whatever is difficult yes but not great viewing when you see the spinning all the time.

Exactly this. The format needs to force you to include limited spin tricks along with the big stuff.

Kokomo thoroughly deserved and a surprise medal for Zoi no one predicted her to medal in this event and she has her best event coming up. Our 1st medal of these Olympics.

As a person from the other side, who barely watches park and pipe, i have always struggled to understand how they classify as "riding a snowboard" It's basically acrobatics on a board by small children (i know they are mostly grown adults, but they look like small children). If you insert Benjamin Karl next to them, he would look like the Hulk In some events the athletes are more in the air, than on the snow..
That being said, i do find them rather enjoyable during Olympics & World Championships.
But as everything it comes to ones preferences. Anglo-Saxons + Japan/Korea/China for some reason love that type of snowboard, while mainland Europe prefers riding a snowboard on an actual mountain.

Looking at the powerhouse park and pipe (big air, halfpipe etc) nations some like CAN and JPN have 1 or 2 athletes. But you look at their park and pipe teams they are full rosters, the other countries USA, Nordic nations, NZL and AUS virtually have no one in alpine snowboarding but again park and pipe dominate their teams. Those nations I speak of very much associate snowboarding with park and pipe. It's a shame because I rather enjoyed the PGS event it was quite nerve-wracking.
