it goes way beyond that... most of these athletes spend a lot of time training in Spain/Portugal e often they really choose to live there 365 days/year because it's way better than in their native Country... the fact that they also earn their money by being under contract with local clubs helps, no doubt, but rarely it's the true reason behind those switch of nationality... and definitely it's not a supermarket-like buy as the Gulf Nations/Azerbaijan and a few other Countries do...

yeah, this is a discipline available to all the boys & girls in the many gyms all around the Country, so it's quite easy to try and have a go at it... unfortunately, it looks that most of our people practicing sport climbing don't like Bouldering, so we don't have the same amount of kids to choose from... Lead instead is a completely different thing...you have to come from (or at least go to live to) mountain places to develop the necessary skills... luckily we have a very good tradition (and a lot of mountains), so we have quite a good "factory" of specialists...

Munich 2002 is considered a single event...it's been sold as a single event to the various broadcasters, the medals are the same for every discipline and all the competitions are included in the (un)official medal table...

in track cycling we have a lot of troubles with the clock once again...

tbh, I'm surprised that our guys went that far... the only true champion we have is Ludovico Fossali (2019 world champion), who's not in Munich... the girls are still too young, all of them are basically still juniors (and Colli is the only one with a few world cup races experience)... hopefully they're going to improve in a couple of years...

still, half the Munich's capacity... and if you look at the 2 main stands, there's a decent crowd this morning... if you like the empty stands, look at the swimming heats in Rome...there are no more than a few hundred people...

tbh, Munich's stadium is a 63,000 seater, Birmingham's was...how much, 12/15,000? it looks that right now there are more than 10,000 people in the stands also in Munich... p.s. love the family name of this Dutch guy...Van Gool! p.s. a couple more "o"s would have been better, though...it would make him more "Latin American broadcaster"...

it's based on the number of starters... if there are 2 crews, then only the golds medal is awarded... with 3 starters, only gold and silver are awarded... with 4+ starters, the full set of medals is up for grabs... basically, the IF doesn't want the last placed boat to get a medal only because they're participating; if you want a medal, you have to beat at least 1 team... if you read yesterday's posts, we tried to explain what's happening in the rowing world (in a few words, after 2024 the lightweight classes are going to be dismissed -since also the LW doubles will go out of the Olympic program, therefore many Nations have already abandoned the non-Olympic races, focusing on the last Olympic events only)...
