Athletics, men's 800m...maybe Rudisha was really the best specialist ever to run the distance, but I don't trust anymore any Kenian/Ethiopian success in the last 40 years at least, therefore my pick is "el caballo" Alberto Juantorena, a man that could really make any race exciting a lot more than the current top specialists. Judo, men's Lightweight...my pick is Shoei Ono, despite this class has seen many very good representatives. But he's the only man to repeat himself on the Olympic mat, and that's a lot in this sport. Judo, women's Lightweight...this is a difficult choice, as many of these Olympic champions didn't prove themselves durable, consistent at the top of the ranking of this weight class. My pick here is Isabel Fernandez, maybe the only one to be an exception to what I wrote before. Artistic Gymnastics, men's Rings... Yuri Chechi...the true Lord of the Rings, who else? Rhythmic Gymnastics, Individual All-Round...rankings written well before the actual competition is held, unfair winners...is that worth any attention? I pass on this event.

Men's Ice Hockey IIHF European Champions Hockey League 2022 - 2023
phelps replied to Totallympics's topic in Ice Hockey
I'm surprised by the very slow start by most of the Swiss teams...I know they don't have such kind of interest for the CHL, but still... and yesterday I also saw the match between Slovan and RBM... not a bad game overall...the Slovaks tried to play at the same level of RBM, but the Germans right now are too strong, too deep as a squad and their superiority came out clearly in the end... -
ah, OK...sorry for the misunderstanding... I hope this sort of "disinterest" would eventually get to an end, sooner or later...and all of your athletes can have their chances to travel the world back as in the past...

they would find another way to waste their talent...

well, in Serie A events it's still possible... K1PL events nowadays have become very much "elite" tournaments with 32 athletes (max) each...and I don't know if they will ever get back to the old glory days... by the way, despite the "moments of glory" of the Tokyo Olympics, Karate here in Italy has gone backwards in terms of media coverage, as our main pay-tv doesn't broadcast anymore even the gold medal matches of the K1PL events and we don't even have any access to the WKF streams, as they're blocked because we have a national tv that bought the tv rights (but they don't use them)...

Friday and Saturday (next week) there will be the senior Skeet individual events with 2 Olympic quota places up for grabs in both the men and women's competitions...

naaaa...they're a lot less worse than those I mentioned above...

the top 3 of the women's K1 standings are out of the final ( Jess Fox included!) but the Australian still manages to win the World Cup in any case, since the best ranked among the finalists ( Mallory Franklin) can't reach anymore in any case...

Men's Basketball FIBA European Championship 2022

not only...we lack size big time, we basically don't have any true big man in the middle of the paint...we have to play with people like Melli as the top center (when he used to be a "3" in the NBA and a small "4" with Olimpia Milano this year... p.s. Mannion is a high class guard, when he remembers to be... -
if the problem of the new venue is that fuckin' bridge shortening the course, just throw it down!!! p.s. by the way, I'm asking myself why the organizations run by French and/or German presidents are always the worst in the world? (remembering the damage that Rene Roch did to fencing during his infamous tenure...and watching FIL-Luge and IOC's current top managers, for instance)

Taekwondo Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

time for another Grand Prix tournament... and in Paris we had some big upsets in day #1... in the women's -49kg, Panipak Wongpattanakit won the gold medal. OQR no.1, Adriana Cerezo, lost against Ela Aydin in the quarterfinals (the German girl won then the bronze medal). Silver went to Merve Dincel, the second bronze went to Kang Bo Ra in the women's -57kg the Chinese girls dominated the field, thanks to Zhongshi Luo (Gold) and Lijun Zhou (bronze). Silver went to Skylar Park, the other bronze medal was won by Nada Laaraj. the men's -58kg, with the Olympic Champion Vito Dell'Aquila still out injured, was won by the local hero Cyrian Ravet, who's becoming more and more dangerous in 2024 perspective. Mohamed Jendoubi earned the Silver medal, meanwhile Adrian Vicente Yunta and Bailey Lewis got the bronze medals. OQR no.1 and world champion (in the -54kg) Jang Jun was surprisingly eliminated by Ravet in the quarterfinals. Day #1 Semifinals and Finals session: -

very proud performance by Croatia, but Giannis (and his teammates) were just too strong in the end... Italy trying to make their own life complicated against Estonia... but we all know it's gonna be a very difficult championship for us, especially after Gallinari's injury... -
no, not at all...they've gone way too far with that...
