The Americans steal the 8th in every sense of the word! A missed takeout on the final stone of the game by the Aussies. Great performance from both teams. -

Week in Winter #2 - United States March 11th - March 25th (WIP) Since I missed the previous week, I am covering both in this post. Alpine Skiing Going back to last week, we had the finals of the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Are, Sweden. In this, and the overall, the US fared very well on the women's side, but not as well on the men's side. Ladies' Downhill: Men's Downhill: Ladies' Super G: Men's Super G: No competitors Team Event: No competitors Ladies' Slalom: Men's Slalom: These results mean that Mikaela Shiffrin wins the Overall and Slalom Crystal Globes! Biathlon March 15th-18th there was a Biathlon WC Event in Oslo: Women Sprint: Men Sprint: Women Relay: Men Pursuit: Women Pursuit: Men Relay: This was a great result for our women, especially Susan Dunklee! A podium finish for her, just her 7th career, and coming off one at the World Championships last year. This race was also significant for the US as it marked the end of the 2 top biathletes for the US, Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke. They both have had great careers and have come close to giving the US their first biathlon medal. I loved watching these gentlemen, and their absence will surely be felt. There was a Biathlon World Cup event in Tyumen, Russia that was the following week and concluded the season. This race was boycotted by the United States because of continued suspicion of Russian doping allegations. Bobsleigh The Bobsleigh World Cup will resume 7-9 December in Sigulda, Latvia. Cross-Country Skiing Curling Figure Skating Freestyle Skiing Ice Hockey Luge The Luge World Cup will resume in November. Nordic Combined Short Track Speed Skating Skeleton The Skeleton World Cup will resume 7-9 December in Sigulda, Latvia. Ski Jumping Snowboarding Speed Skating

I really don't know how my White Sox are going to do this year. They have shown some progress over the last couple of years. Hopefully this year they can break out of the cellar!

You mean the fer, coldzero, taco, and fallen SK Gaming??? That's amazing!

So, here's the part where my crazy comes out: Predominantly Overwatch and Starcraft, sometimes CSGO and Rocket League, and the occasional Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, DotA and League.

Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Schedule All times in PST Day 14 (February 23rd) Biathlon Men's 4x7.5km Relay - 3:15am Team USA Tim Burke Lowell Bailey Leif Nordgren Russell Currier Sean Doherty Thoughts/Background Information Bailey and Burke are pretty decent biathletes, but I'm not very hopeful for a medal here either. Figure Skating Ladies Free - 5:00pm Team USA Karen Chen Mirai Nagasu Bradie Tennell Thoughts/Background Information We are not in a good position to medal in this event. 9th, 10th, and 11th going into it, all 3 were unable to have a clean skate in the short, and that is going to basically eliminated from a medal. Speed Skating Men's 1000m - 2:00am Team USA Shani Davis Joey Mantia Mitchell Whitmore Recap All 3 of these gentlemen are strong skaters and could challenge for a medal if they are able to skate particularly well. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case for the US these Olympics.

Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Results Day 13 (February 22nd) Alpine Skiing Men's Slalom Team USA David Chodounsky - 18th Mark Engel - 31st Nolan Kasper - DNF Recap Not the worst result. Not the best. Pretty okay with this. Women's Combined: Team USA Alice Merryweather - 15th Mikaela Shiffrin - 2nd Lindsey Vonn - DNF Recap Vonn going out on the slalom was a huge loss for the US. But Mikaela Shiffrin did a great job in both runs. Alice Merryweather did a good job finishing both runs. Biathlon Women's 4x6km Relay Team USA Susan Dunklee - 13th Clare Egan- 13th Emily Dreissigacker- 13th Joanne Reid- 13th Recap Susan Dunklee did a great job starting off, but our follow up wasn't quite there, as Emily and Joanna did, honestly, a pretty poor job shooting. Hopefully this team can improve. Curling Men's United States of America 3 vs 5 Canada Team USA John Shuster Tyler George Matt Hamilton John Landsteiner Team Canada Kevin Koe Marc Kennedy Brent Laing Ben Hebert Recap INCREDIBLE! What an upset! America is going to its first final, while Canada will not be going for the first time! And this is the second win for Shuster against Canada. What a Games for this team! Freestyle Skiing Men's Ski Halfpipe Team USA Aaron Blunck - 7th Alex Ferreira - 2nd David Wise - 1st Torin Yater-Wallace - 9th Recap Another incredible result for the US! An absolutely amazing performance for this team! What a day for the US! Ice Hockey Women's United States of America 3 vs 2 Canada [I don't want to type all of their names] Recap YEEEEEEEEEEEES! I lost so much sleep over this game and I don't regret one second of it! FINALLY got the Gold and beat Canada at the Olympics! These women are incredible! Nordic Combined Team Large Hill/4x5km Team USA Bryan Fletcher - 10th Taylor Fletcher- 10th Ben Berend- 10th Ben Loomis- 10th Recap There were only 10 teams. Snowboard Women's Big Air Team USA Jamie Anderson - 2nd Jessika Jenson - 11th Julia Marino - 10th Recap Nabbed another medal for the US in this event. Second medal for Jamie in these Olympics. Awesome performance for her!

Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Schedule All times in PST Day 13 (February 22nd) Alpine Skiing Men's Slalom: 5:00pm Team USA David Chodounsky Mark Engel Nolan Kasper Thoughts/Background Information Not a really good medal chance in this one. Women's Combined: Downhill: 6:30pm Slalom: 10:00pm Team USA Alice Merryweather Mikaela Shiffrin Lindsey Vonn Thoughts/Background Information We have one of the best downhillers in the world and one of the best slalom skiers in the world. They need to be good in the other's discipline to win this race, and I think Mikaela has a strong advantage to do that. Biathlon Women's 4x6km Relay - 3:15am Team USA Susan Dunklee Clare Egan Emily Dreissigacker Madeleine Phaneuf Joanne Reid Thoughts/Background Information Considering that we didn't get a top 50 in the sprint, I'm not hopeful for a good finish in the relay. Curling Men's United States of America vs Canada - 3:05am Team USA John Shuster Tyler George Matt Hamilton John Landsteiner Team Canada Kevin Koe Marc Kennedy Brent Laing Ben Hebert Thoughts/Background Information Ooooooooh, boy! Here we go! Semifinals for the men. Winner goes to the final, loser to the bronze medal match. USA won the prelim game, but these are the Canadians, man. This would be the first time they wouldn't make the final if they lost. Freestyle Skiing Men's Ski Halfpipe - 6:30pm Team USA Aaron Blunck Alex Ferreira David Wise Torin Yater-Wallace Thoughts/Background Information We have 4 of the top halfpipe skiers ever. Honestly, we could medal sweep. Ice Hockey Women's United States of America vs Canada - 8:10pm [I don't want to type all of their names] Thoughts/Background Information THIS IS IT! The Gold Medal game! Get freakin hyped. The best rivalry in hockey, part...I don't even know at this point Nordic Combined Team Large Hill/4x5km - 6:30pm Team USA Bryan Fletcher Taylor Fletcher Ben Berend Ben Loomis Thoughts/Background Information It's a decent team, but not one that will likely win a medal. Snowboard Women's Big Air - 4:30pm Team USA Jamie Anderson Jessika Jenson Julia Marino Thoughts/Background Information Not the best Qualification results for these guys, but still, it's Big Air, anything's possible.

Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Results Day 12 (February 21st) Alpine Skiing Women's Downhill: 6:00pm Team USA Breezy Johnson - 7th Alice McKennis - 5th Laurenne Ross - 15th Lindsey Vonn - 3rd Recap I feel that it is safe to call this a success. Obviously, it is great that Vonn got a bronze medal, but Breezy and Alice getting Top 10 finishes are also awesome! Was hoping that Vonn would win the gold, but I'll settle for a bronze. Bobsleigh Women's Heats 3 & 4 - 3:40am Team USA Elena Meyers Taylor - 2nd Lauren Gibbs - 2nd Jamie Grubel-Poser - 5th Aja Evans - 5th Recap So close! That's Elena's second silver medal in a row, by only 7 hundredths of a second. Great showing by both sleds, Jamie and Aja missed a medal by only .13 seconds. Hopefully they can make one more great run. Cross-Country Skiing Men and Women's Team Sprint - 12:00mid Team USA Erik Bjornsen - 6th Simi Hamilton - 6th Jessie Diggins - 1st Kikkan Randall - 1st Recap GOLD MEDAL! First in Cross Country skiing for the US and first medal for women's cross country skiing for the US. Amazing! Stellar performance by those two and by the men's pair, getting a 6th place finish. Very exciting stuff. Curling Men's United States of America 10 vs 4 Great Britian - 9:05pm Team USA John Shuster Tyler George Matt Hamilton John Landsteiner Team Great Britian Kyle Smith Thomas Muirhead Kyle Waddell Cameron Smith Recap Winner winner, chicken dinner! Big win for the Shuster rink to put them into the top 4 and give them a birth in the semis! They are guaranteed a top 4 after this win and Japan's loss. Wonderful! Women's United States of America 6 vs 9 Sweden - 3:05am Team USA Nina Roth Tabitha Peterson Aileen Geving Becca Hamilton Team Sweden Anna Hasselborg Sara McManus Agnes Knochenhauer Sofia Mabergs Recap Oof. Very close match, down to the 10th end. So close to getting into the tiebreakers and possibly a medal. Still, good performance from the Roth rink, and they should be proud. Figure Skating Ladies Short - 5:00pm Team USA Karen Chen - 10th Mirai Nagasu - 9th Bradie Tennell - 11th Recap That's rather amusing, that the USA skaters all were next to each other. However, they are well out of the medals, as each one of them had a fall. Ice Hockey Men's United States of America 2 vs 3 Czech Republic - 7:10pm [I don't want to type all of their names] Recap This was a sad game to watch. Incredible performance from everyone, and they had a good run, sans a few games. Still, was hoping for a little more in that shootout. Snowboard Men's Big Air - 5:00pm Team USA Chris Corning - Q Red Gerard - Q Kyle Mack - Q Ryan Stassel Recap 3 out of 4 ain't bad. Stassel had a rough heat, but the other 3 have good potential to throw down something huge in the final. Speed Skating Ladies' Team Pursuit - 4:13am Team USA Carlijn Schoutens Heather Bergsma Brittany Bowe Mia Manganello Recap A victory for America over Canada to give us the bronze! Great job, and the first speed skating medal for the US at these games. Men's Team Pursuit - 3:00am Team USA Brian Hansen Emery Lehman Joey Mantia Recap We lost. Last place. Need a lot of improvement here.

Team USA 2018 - Winter Olympics Schedule All times in PST Day 12 (February 21st) Alpine Skiing Women's Downhill: 6:00pm Team USA Breezy Johnson Alice McKennis Laurenne Ross Lindsey Vonn Thoughts/Background Information After a pretty disappointing Super G, will Vonn recover in her best event? Bobsleigh Women's Heats 3 & 4 - 3:40am Team USA Elena Meyers Taylor Lauren Gibbs Jamie Grubel-Poser Aja Evans Thoughts/Background Information Elena Meyers Taylor has won 2 medals in the 2 women event, Silver and Bronze. She sits in 2nd with her brakewoman Lauren Gibbs, who is making her Olympic debut. The other US sled has the Bronze medalists from Sochi, who are sitting in 4th. Great chance for a medal, even 2. Cross-Country Skiing Men and Women's Team Sprint - 12:00mid Team USA Erik Bjornsen Simi Hamilton Jessie Diggins Kikkan Randall Thoughts/Background Information I don't think our Men's team will do that well, but our Women's team won the 2013 Worlds and Diggins and Randall both medalled in the sprint in the 2017 Worlds. Curling Men's United States of America vs Great Britian - 9:05pm Team USA John Shuster Tyler George Matt Hamilton John Landsteiner Team Great Britian Kyle Smith Thomas Muirhead Kyle Waddell Cameron Smith Women's United States of America vs Sweden - 3:05am Team USA John Shuster Tyler George Matt Hamilton John Landsteiner Team Sweden Anna Hasselborg Sara McManus Agnes Knochenhauer Sofia Mabergs Thoughts/Background Information Both of these matches follow similar paths. Last draw for their respective genders, facing a top team, with a spot in the tiebreakers on the line. MUST win for both. Women also need a Japan loss to Switzerland. Figure Skating Ladies Short - 5:00pm Team USA Karen Chen Mirai Nagasu Bradie Tennell Thoughts/Background Information I think these 3 are spectacular skaters. I don't think they will medal. Medvedeva, Osmond, Zagitova, Kostner, Miyahara, Sakamoto, etc, are all sooooo good. Ice Hockey Men's United States of America vs Czech Republic - 7:10pm [I don't want to type all of their names] Thoughts/Background Information Nothing else matters, Quarterfinals are now. Big win against Slovakia should give them a good amount of confidence to hopefully get a good push into the semis. Snowboard Men's Big Air - 5:00pm Team USA Chris Corning Red Gerard Kyle Mack Ryan Stassel Thoughts/Background Information Ryan Stassel has my favorite snowboarder nickname: "Razzle Dazzle." That said, I don't think we're going to get too much of that. These 4 are slopestyle guys, so I don't know what level of tricks they will pull out. Speed Skating Ladies' Team Pursuit - 4:13am Team USA Carlijn Schoutens Heather Bergsma Brittany Bowe Mia Manganello Thoughts/Background Information So...the Dutch are a thing. And they are damn good. I think we lose the semi, but we might pull an upset in the Bronze final. Men's Team Pursuit - 3:00am Team USA Brian Hansen Emery Lehman Joey Mantia Thoughts/Background Information This is Final D. We're just going for pride here.
