Bizarre finale. Had ik dáár maar op ingezet, al ben ik nu ook een rijk man, want het is heerlijk om Nederland weer in de finale te zien staan. Zal wel een gevalletje 'vorm van de dag' worden, er is niet echt een favoriet. Plus als bonus dat de OS nu echt binnen handbereik zijn voor de handbalsters. Een eventueel OKT met Zweden, Senegal en Argentinië in Breda mag en kan bijna niet fout gaan. Maar laat ze eerst maar eens die finale spelen: ze verdienen het om een keer écht de beste te zijn!

Nothing goes as expected in women's handball, so likely Argentina, North Korea and China qualifies :-)

De voetbalvrouwen: uiteraard kansrijk voor een medaille, maar het goud lijkt sowieso naar de VS te gaan (ik verwacht in een finale tegen Engeland). Wat betreft Hassan: ik vind haar echt wel een leuke sporter, maar ik kan niet zeggen dat ik euforisch ben als zij weer eens iets wint. Niet dat ik het haar niet gun, maar het voelt gewoon toch als een soort gekochte medaille (zoals Qatar en Bahrein aan hun atletiekmedailles komen). Komt nog bij dat een dommere keuze als trainen bij Salazar niet bestaat. Schippers vind ik dan wel weer heel bijzonder. Hoop echt dat zij weer op topniveau terugkomt en een medaille gaat winnen. Als eerder gezegd: bang voor een terugval bij de baanwielrenners. En ergens geldt dat ook voor de roeiequipe. Ze waren deze zomer over de hele linie zó onwijs goed, dat het eigenlijk alleen maar kan tegenvallen. Maar dan het volgende 'zorgenkindje': de waterpolodames. Op het EK plaatst de winnaar zich voor de OS, anders komt het weer aan op het OKT in Italië. Van de Europese landen Rusland, Italië, Griekenland, Hongarije en Nederland moet er ééntje afvallen. Rusland en Italië plaatsen zich sowieso wel, die hebben immers genoeg invloedrijke personen binnen de wereldzwembond die kwalificatie mogelijk kunnen maken, voor de kwalificatie van Nederland vrees ik dat er op het OKT een allesbeslissende playoff tegen Griekenland gaat komen ... en wie dat dan gaat winnen? Geen zekerheidje in elk geval. Morgen begint de Swimcup: wie plaatsen zich voor de OS? Zou er naast Heemskerk en Kromo nog een derde en vierde goede zwemster bijkomen voor de 4x100 estafette?

Ik vrees juist dat de baanwielrenners te vroeg hebben gepiekt en volgend jaar volledig door het ijs zakken, maar ik hoop dat het slechts bij een vrees blijft, want ik zou ze het goud op de sprintonderdelen zeker gunnen. VDP maak ik me minder zorgen om, Hassan des te meer. In de Olympische jaren komen er altijd weer nieuwe Keniaansen en Ethiopischen bij, plus dat incident met Salazar. Aan de andere kant zie ik Dafne Schippers ook wel weer op topniveau komen. Alle sporten in -en op het water gaan goed (vooral roeien en zeilen), al moeten de waterpolosters zich natuurlijk nog wel plaatsen. Verder qua teamsporten staan we op 3 en hoop ik toch echt wel op 5 teams. Het genoemde waterpolo en handbal zouden voor die tickets moeten zorgen. Waarbij de handbalsters in een moeilijke OKT-poule terechtkomen als ze de finale van het WK niet halen (zeer likely). Als ze het WK-brons winnen, komen ze in poule 2 met Servië of Montenegro EN Zweden of Hongarije. Dat is gewoon zwaar moeilijk. Voordeel is wel dat ze het toernooi hoogstwaarschijnlijk thuis mogen organiseren. Komen spannende tijden aan!

Netherlands is playing so bad again. They really don't deserve a spot in the semis. In the end they will finish this group in 5th place and 9th overall. And a very though OQT is incoming ...

Despite is already assured of the OQT, I still hope we will finish top 4, because that gives us the right to host the OQT. We definitely need two wins out of two matches, otherwise it's impossible to finish ahead and . So @Vektor, I will cheer with you for the Netherlands :-)

What a shame that the 7th spot at this WCh will be awarded with an Olympic quota (the two non-European nations won't have any chance in that OQT). In this format teams will be encouraged to lose a match purposely to finish 4th in their group.

Japan had the right to choose a group. They decided to place themselves in group D with only two European countries, which means Japan chose a place in the main round. Therefore group A and C have 4 European countries. But still I think group B is the thoughest.

So after one day we already can say that Romania and Netherlands are very weak this tournament. For both of them: they secured their spot at an OQT, unless there's no European team in the final here. But that's not likely. The other European teams (including Russia) will fight for the other OQT-spots. Hopefully Nycke Groot will play again for the national team at the OQT. We missed her so much today.

Do you know if Christina Neagu is playing for Romania this championship? I was wondering, because Netherlands won a friendly match against Romania earlier this week (32-23). Normally Netherlands should not win with such a big difference. But if Romania misses Neagu?

I enjoyed this World Cup so much. An incredible world record for Ganna and good results for the Dutch sprinters, especially Lavreysen. But probably these were the last wins of the Dutch sprinters. Next week GB will ride on their new bikes, so no chances for the other countries anymore .

Sloetjes is not as good as she was the last 4/5 years. Besides that the Dutch team showed an awful form this year. For me Turkey is the biggest favourite, , and are just outsiders.

Finally our third team qualified (after women's football and women's hockey). It wasn't good this weekend, so a big relief they go to Tokio. A lot of work has to be done for winning a medal.

Well, according to Dutch media Omnium rider Jan Willem van Schip enters the Men's Road Race, so the Dutch association is able to choose 4 riders for the Teamsprint/Keirin/Individual Sprint (Van den Berg, Lavreysen, Hoogland and Büchli).

Well, I really don't know, but the KNWU says they read the qualification documents carefully and thinks that a Track specialist can get a Road Race quota ... to be continued!

According to Dutch media Netherlands will try to use one of the quotas in Men's Road Race (5) for an extra Track Sprinter at the OG, since for teamsprint only three athletes can be chosen (and Netherlands has 4 Track-athletes of world class). Hopefully this works out, because it's no option for me to leave Matthijs Büchli home ... (or Hoogland, or Lavreysen or Van den Berg).

Dutch teamsprinters still first in qualifying, but GB comes close again. Only 0,24 between and . At this year's WCh the gap between these teams was 1,13. GB always at their best with the Olympic Games coming .... , not really a surprise, but still annoying ...

Hopefully her behaviour won't affect her Olympic chances. In boxing you can't trust anybody ... even when you're 30 seconds from receiving a gold medal, you can become sewn. Moreover, her behaviour (not want to receive a silver medal) was very understandable ...

Boxing is terribly ill ... what the fuck Fontijn lost her gold medal during the medal ceremony. Looks like Wales offered a lot of money to one of the judges. And indeed, sanctions incoming for Fontijn. Maybe she will be excluded from the Olympic Games. Career end.

Thank God, Deurloo is qualified for the Olympics!!

What an horrible night for Dutch gymnastics. Last year 7th of the world, now they even finish behind Belgium and Kazachstan. Hopefully there's one AA-ticket for Deurloo, but no idea if his 80.500 points are enough? Zonderland has another chance to qualify for the Olympics through the (highbar) World Cup, but that's not likely. Miyachi from wants that Olympic ticket too and is the better one in my opinion. So: only Deurloo maybe in Tokio. (Still calculating)

Because Dutch performance would hurt your eyes tonight ... What a bummer. Maybe even no individual AA-ticket, because Deurloo and Schmidt are really underperforming. Only chance is Epke Zonderland, but he is injured and it's likely he won't get a highbar-final. So, maybe 0 Dutch gymnasts in Tokio.
