Yeah, this was an upgrade for Japan. Or likely just the strategy all along, the short program has more emphasis on PCS, and Shoma Uno is better there.

I would suggest just having the short programs and that's it. I think they are avoiding 10-8-6-4-2 in order not to (potentially) traumatize skaters before their individual events. Oh well.

Finally came around to watching women's ski jumping at the Olympics. The competition was... intriguing. A mixture of serious athletes with lots of low level skiers I guess. Some of the low level ones even made the second round. And all that drama and elation about Anna Hoffman going to Beijing ended up with one jump of 64 m (and no telemark). Slovenia

Few thoughts... Well... I am loving this track! It's long. Camera angles are amazing. Gaps are huge, meaning a lot can be gained/lost, and that there will be huge deficits on the final leaderboard (like reading results from some vintage Olympics). Pretty convinced the Ukrainian luge federation is just a front for a money-laundering operation. In Pyeongchang they finished last in every event (both singles, doubles, relay). Today both their men crashed in run 1. Come on? Should be an exciting battle Ludwig vs Kindl for gold. I am tipping Kindl actually.

Proud of Valentina. That was a well handled race and should be ranked 23rd in the final analysis. And oh look, the fabricated new event delivered the expected fabricated outcome.
