  1. Extremely unlucky draw for the german team. Sweden is probably a top 5 team, can't believe that they are only seeded 10th. I think Germany could have beaten every team except Switzerland/Austria. Quarterfinals: Austria vs. Slovenia/Canada France/Czech Republic vs. Norway/Poland Italy/Russia vs. Slovakia/USA Germany/Sweden vs. Switzerland/China Semifinals should be: Austria vs. France/Norway Italys vs. Switzerland Can't believe what an easy draw Austria has. Germany probably would have made the final with a draw like that. The austrians should be ashamed if they don't win at least silver.
  2. Yes, this is way Kalicki isn't top 3 ... Germany not being top 2 would have been one of the biggest shocks in olympic history. Really disgusting how people keep having insane expectations for the american grandmas.
  3. Might have been one of the most predictable golds. Quite shocking that Smith didn’t win gold yesterday. Alpine skiing has shown that Switzerland has superior material. If you put a retarded toddler on swiss skis, he/she would probably still medal.
  4. Not so sure considering the conditions. Most of the competitions were completely unworthy. When there is a tornado in every single race, the results are mostly luck + skiing speed. Being a good shooter didn’t have much relevance here (not that it usually has anyways). Biathlon is pretty much cross-country skiing for less talented cross-country skiers at this point.
  5. Interesting that the video controller is from Germany. Not sure if he had anything to do with the decision though. I guess it was time we started fixing competitions as well after what Slovenia did in ski jumping ...
  6. According to fivethirtyeight Russia is the biggest overperformer so far (9 medals above expectation), followed by Italy (7 medals above expectation) and Japan (5 medals above expectation). They predict that Norway will win the most medals (34), followed by Russia (28), Canada/USA (27), Germany (25), Netherlands/Austria (19), Sweden (18), Japan (17) and Italy (16). I think not many people would have predicted Italy to win more medals than Switzerland/China and at least as many medals as France. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/winter-olympics-medal-count/
  7. Extremely sad for Anna Seidel, she was a generational talent for Germany and had the potential to win olympic medals, but for some reason she never came close. Not sure if i will witness another talent like her competing for Germany during my lifetime.
  8. Easily the most surprising medal for Germany. Huge respect for the german coach. He knew that their only medal chances would be the relays and they probably focused on those events in training. Too bad that the women's 30 km race will be in freestyle, otherwise Hennig might have won another medal.
  9. Surprised that Faißt made the team over Rydzek. Should be a pretty open 3-way battle for gold. Crazy that Riiber will end the olympics without a single medal. Also Lamparter only winning 1 bronze would be pretty disappointing for him.
  10. They are the most versatile nation, the only sports where they are irrelevant are nordic combined and alpine skiing. USA, Canada and Norway don't have the same versatility, they are all irrelevant in 4+ sports.
  11. Bronze is a success for Germany under the circumstances, but i am bit sad thinking about what would have been possible with Preuß in normal shape. Who would have thought that neither Norway nor France would win a medal? Also an interesting thought i just had: Laura Dahlmeier would have been younger at the 2026 olympics than Denise Herrmann is now. Overall 2 medals seems like a fair result for Germany, the only hope that it will get better in 2026 is Selina Grotian.
  12. Sorry, without those medals Germany would be too low on the medal table, only in 15th place behind nations like Canada or Slovenia and only slightly ahead of Australia.
  13. How about making a poll at the end of the games about which athletes will repeat their gold in 2026/which athletes are most likely to repeat their gold in 2026?
  14. Norway killed all german hopes of winning the medal table. Gold in men's biathlon wasn't a shock, but grandpa Grabaak beating Geiger must be one of the least believable performances at the games.
  15. I have never been this happy that i wasn't able to watch something live. Women's downhill: 4th place for Germany Men's nordic combined: 4th place for Germany Men's biathlon: 4th place for Germany There is no way that any nation ever had this much bad luck on a single day at the olympics. Germany should have won 2 medals in those events alone. Also another great 4th place for the german women in alpine skiing ...
  16. Surprised that Norway still isn't completely out of reach. If Germany would have converted some of their gold medal chances (Dürr, Althaus, ski jumping mixed/men's team, Nörl, Baumeister), they actually could have won the medal table.
  17. Excited to see what Weidle can do, she looked very good in training. Goggia seems like the no-brainer choice, but personally i hope that Ledecka will do it again. I will be happy as long as Austria won't fluke another gold.
  18. Horrible news for Germany (and everyone else), but i guess it would have been unfair for him not to win an individual gold. Frenzel will be back for the team competition, Weber has to go home sadly.
  19. What an insane result! This might be a bigger upset than Steven Bradbury winning gold. A team consisting of a bunch of has-beens (Fatner, Kraft) winning the gold medal ... Austria having a better medal record than Norway/Germany after this season is just insane. I guess Austria can do no wrong here. Conchita Wurst probably could have won the downhill for them if they would have nominated her. This must be one of the biggest overperformances in olympic history. The amount of nobodies (Fatner, Stadlhuber, Strolz and Greiderer) winning medals for them is unbelievable. Also: Geiger lost the gold for Germany. Horrible olympics for him and for german ski jumping overall.
  20. Germany has been late to the party. Not too surprising. I think they underestimate the stupidity of IOC to make this non-event part of the olympics. At most monobob competitions they can't even find 10 competitors (which isn't too surprising given that women's 2-man bob is already pretty uncompetitive).
  21. She might be a medal contender in 2026. At the 2020 youth olympics she won silver. Romania won gold, Germans placed 3rd and 4th, the best american placed 14th (more than 5 seconds behind the winner and only marginally ahead of the colombian bob*) and the best canadian placed 17th (out of 18 competitors and even behind the colombian bob). * which is especially impressive when you know that there were only 2 runs
  22. ... this event didn't do anything to answer that question?
