  1. Good job so far keeping things cohesive between the 2 locations. LA2028.. learn from this!
  2. I'm impressed so far. Cool effects with the colors and the paint tubes
  3. For those who didn't catch the news.. the Canada-Finland hockey game that got postponed today is re-scheduled for next Friday, February 12th at 14:30 at Rho Arena
  4. I don't buy that she's doing this just to start the race if she thinks she won't be competitive. We'll probably know more after the training run and far be it from me to know how that's going to work with a torn ACL, but if she knows she can't do it, she'll give that spot to another skier
  5. What's interesting is that in 2006, there were high hopes for the US team and they did well, but a lot of the big stars - think Bode Miller - under-performed so it gave off the impression that it was a bad Olympics for the Americans
  6. I'm not into doing all the research to make the full predictions. All I know is that there's a decent chance of seeing a new record for most gold medals by Team USA!
  7. Definitely didn't expect them to stretch all the way to New York. Figured they could mostly keep it in and around California and the Southwest. I guess I'm going to need to go to an Olympic soccer game or 2!
  8. I saw it got mentioned upthread, but in graphic form...
  9. I'm also reminded as I know Canadians are painfully aware that if figures hadn't been a part of the 1984 Olympics, then Brian Orser would have won gold. Hamilton could have finished 4th in the free skate that year and still beat Orser who finished 7th in the figures
  10. The competitors found it boring as hell and it made for terrible television (that is if the networks even bothered to show it). As much as it put the "figure" in figure skating, it's one of those relics of the sport and Olympic competition that no one really misses
  11. Should be some really cool visuals, especially for night games
  12. It's funny to think back how revolutionary it was for Calgary to have speed skating at an indoor venue, but I agree this is a good solution going forward for future host cities, especially in Europe where the games are likely to be more spread out where they could find a large arena/stadium to use as a temporary venue
  13. Looks great, especially knowing that it's a temporary venue. Low ceilings will likely be great for the skaters
  14. Fingers crossed that she's okay after a race that never should have been run today!
  15. Team USA has been remarkably consistent. They won 10 gold medals in Salt Lake and they've won exactly 9 at each of the past 5 Olympics. I recall from Torino in 2006 that the perception was that the American team did poorly because a lot of the big name stars (think Bode Miller) under-performed. Hopefully that's not the case this time around
  16. It's funny how the tables have turned somewhat where 15-20 years ago, it was Americans who wanted the Canadian coverage and now it's the other way around. And I say about Peacock a lot that even though it's a paid service (remember our TV networks and Olympic committee are not affiliated with the government, so the obligation to provide everything for free isn't as strong), it's $11 for a month which you can cancel right after. So that means the entry point to get literally everything from the Olympics is as low as it has ever been. NBC's coverage has evolved a lot in the last decade. No more primetime embargoes. Much more coverage on the broadcast network. And the streaming platform is pretty solid, which is an alternative to the usual over-produced network coverage. I do remember the Shiffrin race where NBC didn't just focus on her briefly.. they stayed on her for several minutes even though other skiers were making their runs. I usually can forgive NBC for some of their flaws, but that was a really egregious one that I hope they wouldn't think to repeat, although it would be tougher with no live events in primetime
  17. It's easy enough for them to just plug into the video feeds and stream it. No announcers or any production needed. Basically just someone to hit a button when it starts and hit another button when it ends.
  18. Thank you to the Japanese for making that happen. And I remember that well because I didn't have a 4K TV at the time, but my mom did. So I watched a lot of the Olympics with her just to see all of it and it wasn't just 1 channel in 4K, I think it was 3 of them. I understand the business aspect of why it's not done more often because it's harder to monetize. Maybe that's why I still have the same TV at home that I've had since 2008
  19. Wasn't made clear from the press release how much of the Olympics NBC will broadcast in 4K, although from what's been reported, this will just be an upscaled 1080p broadcast and not true 4K
  20. Alpine and Cross-Country are what I'm getting up early in the morning for. And definitely want to see Jordan Stolz in speed skating to revive American interest in the sport since there hasn't been a big star in a long time
