  1. Wüst is now guaranteed of a medal. Her fifth medal on the women’s 1.500m. What a legend! She can win an individual gold medal at 5 consecutive Winter Olympic Games.
  2. Maybe two of them will finish 1st and 2nd and the third one will be advanced after a penalty by one of the non-Canadian skaters on the third.
  3. I really hope so! She’s in the first pair after the ice preparation, so the ice will still be softer. Plus she is skating before all the favorites, so she needs to set a time. I do I agree that maybe I should have put her higher as the conditions are tough and she has marathon experience.
  4. Draw for the women's 1.500m is out. After my wildly succesful prediction for the men's 5.000m, here's mine for tomorrow : Miho Takagi Brittany Bowe Ayano Sato Ragne Wiklund Ireen Wüst Elizaveta Golubeva Francesca Lollobrigida Nana Takagi Antoinette De Jong Nadezhda Morozova Han Mei Evgeniia Lalenkova Ivanie Blondin Nikola Zdráhalová Yin Qi Marijke Groenewoud Yekaterina Aydova Natalia Czerwonka Mia Kilburg Maddison Pearman Ahenaer Adake Elena Sokhryakova Ekaterina Sloeva Maryna Zuyeva Huang Yu-Ting Sofie Karoline Haugen Ellia Smeding Michelle Uhrig Sandrine Tas Magdalena Czyszczon
  5. So this was a big fail Nils Van Der Poel (=0) Patrick Roest (=0) Ted-Jan Bloemen (-6) Davide Ghiotto (-4) Jorrit Bergsma (=0) Sergey Trofimov (+2) Ruslan Zakharov (-7) Bart Swings (+1) Alexander Rumyantsev (+3) Hallgeir Engebråten (+7) Emery Lehman (-5) Patrick Beckert (+1) Michele Malfatti (-2) Ethan Cepuran (-3) Sven Kramer (+6) Seitaro Ichinohe (+4) Felix Rijhnen (+4) Livio Wenger (=0) Andrea Giovannini (-1) Viktor Hald Thorup (+1)
  6. Just for fun, a complete 'prediction' including times, including surprises : Nils Van Der Poel - 6:06.01 Patrick Roest - 6:10.12 Ted-Jan Bloemen - 6:11.26 Davide Ghiotto - 6:11.44 Jorrit Bergsma - 6:12.10 Sergey Trofimov - 6:12.81 Ruslan Zakharov - 6:13.03 Bart Swings - 6:13.53 Alexander Rumyantsev - 6:14.40 Hallgeir Engebråten - 6:14.54 Emery Lehman - 6:14.99 Patrick Beckert - 6:15.54 Michele Malfatti - 6:15.87 Ethan Cepuran - 6:15.91 Sven Kramer - 6:15.94 Seitaro Ichinohe - 6:16.70 Felix Rijhnen - 6:16.77 Livio Wenger - 6:16.82 Andrea Giovannini - 6:17.45 Viktor Hald Thorup - 6:24.54
  7. Hahaha, it will be his final 5k ever, so probably they won't talk about anyone else.
  8. Interesting draw for the men's 5.000m: Sven Kramer - Viktor Hald Thorup Emery Lehman - Felix Rijhnen Sergey Trofimov - Hallgeir Engebråten Livio Wenger - Ethan Cepuran Andrea Giovannini - Patrick Roest -- Ice preparation -- Jorrit Bergsma - Seitaro Ichinohe Patrick Beckert - Michele Malfatti Alexander Rumyantsev - Davide Ghiotto Ruslan Zakharov - Ted-Jan Bloemen Nils van der Poel - Bart Swings Strong first half and none of the top favorites skating against each other.
  9. Is Nikola Mazur related to Hanna Mazur, the supertalent in long track speed skating?
  10. All three Dutch women winning their heat Choi and Velzeboer also had strong winning times. Going to be an exciting distance for sure.
  11. Olympic Record for Schulting in the heats Strong races from Boutin and Fontana as well.
  12. True, but it's only the heats on day 1. Her level is so high that if the symptoms aren't too bad, she should be able to get through the heats just fine. Let's hope she'll test negative before the heats.
  13. The Junior World Championships showed that there's solid potential in a lot of countries. Countries that had at least one top 10-finish in the classical distances: , , and have a realistic chance to finish top 10 in the mass start tomorrow. and did not take part due to COVID-restrictions. So the future looks very bright in my eyes for international speed skating. Some outstanding results: Wiktoria Dabrowska is still a junior for four more seasons after this one and already finished top 8 in the girls' 500m and even top 5 in the girls' 1.000m. She's at least 2 years younger than anyone else who made top 10 on both the girls' side. Sigurd Hunriksen is still a junior for two more seasons and finished almost 8 seconds ahead of the #2 in the boys' 5.000m. This must be the first international championships ever where had a top-10 finish on both the girls' and boys' side.
  14. Junior World Championships held in Innsbruck Pretty much all top juniors apart from Jordan Stolz were there. The classical distances have all been finished. The team pursuit, team sprint and mass start will be skated tomorrow. These are the podiums: Girls: 500m: Pien Smit Yukino Yoshida Sophie Warmuth 1.000m: Yukino Yoshida Alina Dauranova Jade Groenewoud 1.500m: Jade Groenewoud Evelien Vijn Chloé Hoogendoorn 3.000m: Jade Groenewoud Evelien Vijn Mio Takahashi Allround: Jade Groenewoud Evelien Vijn Park Chae-Won Boys: 500m: Joep Wennemars Nil Llop Yuta Hirose 1.000m: Joep Wennemars Kayo Vos Tim Prins 1.500m: Tim Prins Joep Wennemars Emil Pedersen Matre 5.000m: Sigurd Henriksen Stijn van de Bunt Vladimir Semirunnij Allround: Joep Wennemars Tim Prins Emil Pedersen Matre
  15. Impressed by Persico this season. Great result for her!
  16. had priority over on the men’s 1.000m. Could it be that the maximum number of quota was reached and that was the first one missing out, whereas can enter an athlete that already had a quota on another distance?
  17. As a result: , & are now definitely in. Sandrine Tas had one quota (mass start) and how has four (500m, 1.000m, 1.500m and mass start) could have had 3 quotas on the women's side, but only decided to keep the 1 quota they already had on the mass start. could have 3 quota on the men's 1.000m, but now only have 1. refusing the quota on the men's 1.000m means they will have no male skaters in Beijing. In total there are 27 countries with at least one confirmed quota (2018: 29 countries).
  18. Some reallocations took place. It also seems as if the provisional quota file was incorrect/incomplete as the number of quota per distances was mostly lower than the actual event quota according to the original qualification document. For example, the provisional quota list had 27 entry quota's on the women's 500m, even though the qualification document stated that the maximum number of skaters on the women's 500m would be 30. As a result, a lot of reserves have been added. Distance In Out Refusing additional quota Women's 500m took over the refused quota from Germany, are all in to get the event quota to 30. refused 1 quota refused 1 quota Women's 1.000m are all in to get the event quota to 30. n/a refused 1 quota Women's 1.500m are all in to get the event quota to 30. n/a refused 1 quota Women's 3.000m both in to get the event quota to 20. n/a n/a Women's 5.000m n/a n/a n/a Women's Mass Start n/a n/a n/a Women's Team Pursuit n/a n/a n/a Men's 500m are all in to get the event quota to 30. n/a refused 1 quota Men's 1.000m took over the refused quota from Germany, to get the event quota to 30. refused 1 quota refused 1 quota, refused 1 quota Men's 1.500m & took over the refused quota from Germany, took over the refused quota from Japan, are all in to get the event quota to 30. refused 2 quotas refused 1 quota n/a Men's 5.000m in to get the event quota to 20 n/a n/a Men's 10.000m n/a n/a n/a Men's Mass Start n/a n/a n/a Men's Team Pursuit n/a n/a n/a

  20. Yeah. still won against though. Didn’t watch the match. Maybe their team was also severely impacted by COVID.
  21. Our first, second and third keeper tested positive for COVID as well as our head coach and four field players
