  1. Budapest has been confirmed as host of the 2023 IAAF World Championship.
  2. Luka Modric wins the Ballon d'Or 2018 After ten years of Ronaldo or Messi winning "the golden ball", Modric becomes the first to break their domination. Luka Modric becomes the first Croatian player to win the award. He also becomes the second oldest winner of the Ballon d'or at the age of 33, (Stanley Matthews won it at the age of 41 in 1956), and he beats Fabio Cannavaro with 4 days. https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/realmadrid/luka-modric-wins-the-ballon-d-or-real-madrid-star-ends-decade-of-lionel-messi-and-cristiano-ronaldo-a4007121.html
  3. Emilie Ratelband is officially 69 years old, not 49! https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-46425774 From the court: "Mr Ratelband is at liberty to feel 20 years younger than his real age and to act accordingly," the judges said, but changing his legal documents would have "undesirable legal and societal implications". The court agreed with him that age is part of a person's identity. But unlike a person's gender or name, which Mr Ratelband sought to draw comparisons to, it had further complications. "Rights and obligations are also attached to age... for example, the right to vote, the right to marry, the opportunity to drink alcohol and to drive a car," the court said. It found that the possibility of declaring oneself younger could open the door to the opposite - becoming older. In its judgement, the court said that granting the request would cause "all kinds of legal problems" by effectively erasing 20 years of events. It pondered what would happen to qualifications obtained in that time, or a driving licence issued, or a marriage solemnised.

  6. The UEFA Executive Committee has approved the creation of a third UEFA club competition for the 2021–2024 competition cycle at its meeting today in Dublin. • The new competition (which has the working title of UEL2) will mirror the existing UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, and feature 32 teams in a group stage. • The format will see eight groups of four teams, followed by the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. • An additional knock-out round will be played before the round of 16 between teams ranked second in their groups and the third-ranked teams of the UEFA Europa League groups. • The new competition will feature 141 matches over 15 match weeks, exactly like the UEFA Europa League. • The winner of the new competition will be entitled to participate in the UEFA Europa League in the following season. • The new competition matches will be played on Thursdays. As such, the UEFA Champions League continues to be played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the UEFA Europa League and the new competition will be played on Thursday with one additional kick-off time slot for a limited number of matches in principle at 16.30 (CET) to be further defined. • All club competition finals will be played in the same week: Wednesday (new competition), Thursday (UEFA Europa League) and Saturday (UEFA Champions League). Acces list for the new club competition and other UEFA club competition for 2021-2024- https://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/uefaorg/General/02/58/61/42/2586142_DOWNLOAD.pdf Also, as part of the 2021-2024 competition cycle, the UEFA Europa League will now be similarly streamlined with the same format, including an additional knock-out round played before the round of 16 between teams ranked second in their groups and the third-ranked teams of the UEFA Champions League groups.
  7. Sadness, sadness and more sadness...
  8. All this talk about heywoodu's non-existing boy, girl, non-binary or gender fluid baby reminds me that I have to survive my cousin's twins' baptism tomorrow. Two screaming babies, and listening to my uncle's inappropriate sex life, not really what I want to do on a sunday. Oh well, family is family.
  9. I hope only one skier will be faster than them, so we can have 5 men on the podium.
  10. I don't know why I put this song here, but the song title reminds me of some discussions on a certain forum today?

  14. Thanks to Kumar Subramiam, Malaysia's goalkeeper, Netherlands "only" scored 7 goals against Malaysia. Netherlands could have won with two digits to be honest.
  15. Esteve Altimiras is currently 21st, best place in the World Cup. Andorra have scored world cup points before, 24th place by Francois Jacques Soulie in Changchun in 2007, but that was in a field of only 37. https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=CC&competitorid=120893&raceid=12715 Soulie scored his points in 15 F like Esteve Altimiras.
  16. I never thought I would see someone from with a better ranking than Klaebo.
  17. What a match between Denmark and Sweden!
  18. It can end up being a good day for Swiss alpine skiing.
  19. That was in 2013 in Lillehammer. (Viktor Pasichnyk) https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=NK&raceid=1699 I guess Ukraine's and Pasichnyk's chance of World Cup points is in Lillehammer.
