AFC Asian Cup qualifier

India drew with Afghanistan 1-1.

Qualified for 3rd round which is scheduled in November...

Indian football seems to be going nowhere even with all the investments in ISL for about 10 years now.

Its unto the players to perform in International scene, Messi is good in club football but has a player with Argentina is he good? Blending all 11 players together and performing is the main aim. India have good central n decent defence our main issue is good forward. Other than Chethri we don't have good forward at the moment. Players need to give 200% in play for our team to achieve the top level.

We have very good forward in Chethri, good goalkeeper in Sandhu, Sandhesh in defence but other 8 should come to the party for our team to succeed. Coach himself cant bring in magic. We need lot of matchdays in top level to perform. See the Afghani who plays in ISL play against us. He was superb in field, playing in ISL if he can improve why cant our players rise to the occasion.

Prajnesh will be India's #1 player after this week once again. We are going backwards rather than forward in tennis. 147 to prajnesh and 148 to Sumit is really not good enough.

Something is really wrong somewhere, we can't pin point it at the moment, Ex Bipin Singh looked good in ISL(I only watched a  couple of matches he played) he looked horrible against Bangladesh and was finally replaced at 70 mins, the coach and the captain has to own the fact and dig in why players are under performing, seems like there's a lot of money and no ownership if them doesn't perform. The influx of Juniors U19 players performing taking places of seniors helped in hockey maybe we need walk the same path

We need someone like Rahul Dravid, Gopi to lead the juniors in football. They gave more than 100% and brought discipline in the youngsters in their respective sports. Same is needed in football for the game to move forward in right direction.

There needs to be a clear vision and targets needs to be set for Indian football. With  8 Asian countries able to qualify from an expanded 48 team World Cup in 2026 onwards, qualification in 2030 should be set as the realistic target. Also a Round of 16 qualification by 2023 Asian Cup
Targets should also be set for Indian clubs' performance in AFC Champions League and AFC Cup.

For this the following steps can be done

  • Merge ISL and Indian League and make the season year long, with system of relegation and promotion
  • Improve the standard of coaching and refereeing. Target should be Indian referees should officiate in AFC competitions
  • More international friendlies against at par or stronger opposition
  • Set targets at U-17, U-20, U-23 AFC tournaments

Good thoughts, the key point is we can't score goals as every team in ISL are playing foreign strikers, that's 1 position Centre forward where no Indians play(maybe only Chettri) in ISL  naturally they can't score goals in international matches, will this inclusion of another Indian player from next year in ISL change that??

I don't mind if no Indian strikers can't find a place in starting place in ISL clubs. Let them earn it. Even clubs like Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus etc don't have indigenous strikers buy that doesn't mean the respective national teams aren't doing well.

We need to focus at U-16, U-19 levels and good players in all positions will come good
