Rifle shooter Chain Singh suffered a major setback in his preparation for the Rio, as the Army shooter has been hospitalized in Lausanne, after being diagnosed with pulmonary embolism and pneumonia on Thursday. Pulmonary embolism is a condition where blood clots form in the veins of the patient and causes trouble in breathing.

Chain, who is training with Gagan and Apurvi Chandela along with coach Stanislav Lapidus in Lausanne, was supposed to fly to Rio on Sunday. But now, he would be staying there till August 1 and would be joining the team by August 2.

Hockey coach Oltmans to use multiple captains in Rio

With India going into the Olympics with only one goalkeeper in the 16, they can ill-afford to lose Sreejesh owing to cards or penalties. To counter this, the senior players will take turns to wear the captain's arm band.
"From now on, we will share captaincy. Sreejesh is the captain but he will never wear the band during matches. Sardar, Raghunath, Sunil and Mandeep will wear it. We worked on the group of captains to make sure on and off the pitch, more responsibility is taken up by more players," elaborated Oltmans.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
