It will probably be 3 women sailors this time. Courtesy the silver ahead of China and Thailand in AG 2018 in 49er FX.

I was guessing about atheletics..... What does the group feel

Quotas in Greco-Roman wrestling?? When did this happen?

We have only 4 quotas in wrestling (3 FS men and 1 FS women)

This is the best possible guesstimate.....

Yes actually we should be talking about the size of the olympic Squad of India by now with just 4 months left ......

I think In 2016 we had the largest olympic team of all time ....This time I feel we will have more  ............... The good thing is India is  active in over 272 events ....... ( when I say active we have at least a top 100 individual player or a top 30 team in the following sports )( left out completely those we are not so active in, I believe by Paris 2024 we will definitely have quota places in those marked black like track cycling or sprint canoeing )

The variance tells us sports we have got better in or worse in ( except atheletics where I believe the lowered number is because of a reduction in quotas )

  Events  2016 2020 variance

Swimming 37 2 2 0
Archery 5 4 6 2
Atheletics 48 34 20 -14
Badminton 5 7 7 0
Womens Boxing  5 0 5 5
Mens Boxing  8 3 7 4
Canoeing Sprint  12     0
Cycling Track   12     0
Equistrian  6 0 1 1
Fencing  12 0 1 1
field Hockey  2 32 32 0
Golf  2 3 3 0

Shotgun Shooting  5 3 2 -1
Table tennis 5 4 4 0
Taekwondo 8     0
Tennis 5 4 2 -2
weightlifting 14 2 2 0
Freestyle Men Wrestling 6 2 5 3
Freestyle women Wrestling  6 3 5 2
Greco Men wrestling  6 2 3 1
  272 117 125 8

I too agree on the overall number but still would nitpick on few numbers. For example, do you really think we can qualify a team in Women's Archery. I really don't trust Deepika Kumari and co. Also we will qualify 4 golfers. 7 players in Badminton is a long shot now unless the qualifying period is extended which it should as many events in April is suspended. Biggest regret so far definitely is Table Tennis team qualification, hope we clinch it in 2024.

Can you elaborate who do you see qualifying in Taekwondo and Canoeing in 2024

I think Taekwondo and canoeing are sports where we have started to get Asian level medals in the last couple of years albeit in non Olympic categories.... I think we can improve further

In canoeing Gaurav tomar and Namita Chandel are doing well, I think C-2 ( gaurav with salam) may be a good bet for us with some improvement

Latika and Naveen have medalled at the Asian level..... Latika had been a top 25 in the world taekwondo athelete ( in 53 a non Olympic category and a top 50 athelete in 57) .Rudali is also doing well .. I feel that if we improve further we can get a top 25 player in an Olympic category in which case we should have a quota place......

    • And this is the final Medal Table fo the XX Bolivarian Games in
    • Agreed. But OTOH, the chances of a Male Team pursuit medal also seem rather slim at the moment, so why the hassle of dropping someone.
    • I have a sports database with millions of entries, which I then convert graphically on my Wikipedia sandbox.
    • Wouldn't be surprised to see the same this time. The men's 500m has basically on or with luck two medal chances, but certainly not three (semi-realistic) ones. With Beau Snellink for now not exactly on his way to an Olympic ticket and Patrick Roest still questionable, that might only leave Chris Huizinga, Jorrit Bergsma and Marcel Bosker, and that is not exactly a group one would want to have in the team pursuit.
