Wish this was LC instead of SC

it will be in 2027/2028, when it will be an olympic qualifier, I guess

imho, it's a better show in SC in this period of the year, when not all the swimmers are in great shape (SC can hide a bit that, since it's mainly start & turns, especially in the shorter distances)

day #1 of the Toronto stage and already 2 new world records! :yikes:

:HUN Hubert Kos improved :AUS Mitchell Larkin's previous mark in the men's 200m backstroke by half a second, swimming the distance in 1.45.12

Home favourite :CAN Josh Liendo, instead, is the new world record holder over the men's 100m fly, after swimming an amazing 47.68 and dethronizing :SUI Noè Ponti

:AUS Lani Pallister almost got to :CAN Summer McIntosh's world record in the women's 400m free, stopping the clock at 3.51.87, only 1.5 secs behind the Canadian superstar (not participating to this event due to illness)

it's raining world records in Toronto!

on Friday, :AUS Molly O'Callaghan wrote history in the women's 200m free, improving her own one-week young WR up to 1.49.36 :yikes:

on Saturday, no less than 6 new world records were established in the Canadian pool :yikes::yikes::yikes:

it all started with :HUN Hubert Koss swimming an unbelievable 48.16 in the men's 100m backstroke

then, it was time for :AUS Lani Pallister to set a new mark over the women's 800m free (7.54.00, cancelling Katie Ledecky's record by 3.5 secs), followed by the usual show by :USA Gretchen Walsh, who swam 55.10 over her beloved 100m fly

the 4th record was set by :AUS Kaylee McKeown in the women's 200m backstroke, improving her own mark up to 1.57.33

the new world record number #5 came in the men's 200m breaststroke, where :NED Caspar Corbeau became the first man to swim the distance below the 2-min mark (1.59.52).

In the same race, :JPN Shin Ohashi was 2nd and established the new junior world record in 2.02.03

finally, the icing on the cake: :USA Kate Douglass became the first woman in history to swim the ladies' 100m free below the 50-sec mark, covering the distance in 49.93

p.s. check that pool! it must be shorter than 25m...there can't be so many WRs in an early season meet :mumble:

    • I won't write about injuries (Fede) and non-sporting matters (Colturi), but the fact is that Italy has its worst start to the season in alpine skiing in over 10 years... Just one victory, and podiums- if any, they're mostly 3 places. We're also not leading in any of the season standings, no in the women's or men's categories. This isn't be it should be in an Olympic year in your country, where you're having your worst season in many years.
    • Plaisier blew 3 match darts and Ratajski comes back to win!
    • Yes, she was unlucky, but it could just as easily have happened during some training, like with Gut, etc. Brignone has been essentially injury-free throughout her long career, which is very rare in this sport. It's unfortunate that this happened after her best season ever and just 1 year before the Olympic Games in home, when she just missing of win the Olympic gold medal in her great career. With the gold in Cortina, she would have become a legend of Italian skiing, on par with Tomba. Now she's still the best Italian woman in history, but the miss of Olympic gold will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
    • It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.   We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...
    • Mikaela Shiffrin  off the podium today (Edit: Oops...I thought this was slalom, not Giant Slalom.).  Nina Astner  entered the 2nd run in 30th place, but had the best second run, jumping up 18 places to 12th.
    • Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel with a 5th place PB in Semmering GS!
    • Today RDC will defeat Senegal  and Tunisia 0-0 Nigeria
