:ENG have made strong start to their 2025 EuroHockey Championship with a 5-0 win over :POL

On Sunday they will take on :GER before facing :FRA on Monday in the remaining pool games.

Am expecting the German match to be close - in June they played twice. Germany won both - the first in a Shootout after a 2-2 draw whilst the second match Germany won 3-2.

In the battle of the Home Nations, :ENG women defeat :SCO 3-0 in the first pool match at the EuroHockey Championships. That's the easy job done - gets more difficult from here as they take on :BEL tomorrow before finishing their pool matches against :ESP on Wednesday.

:ENG have crashed out of European Championships after last second goal by France who take the tie 3-2.

This is just the 3rd time that England have failed to progress to the semi finals in the last 20 years.

And the week goes from bad to worse with the women's team also crashing out - think that is only the 2nd time in the last 30 years that they have failed to progress to the semis.

Let's hope they are just having a quiet post Olympic year because on current form there is distinct possibility that neither team would qualify for Los Angeles

This year has given me the impression that teamgb in some sports simply dont focus that much on the year after the olympics.

the mens team were unlucky i felt, they bossed germany but conceded, and they were below par against france but had done enough, switching off with 8 seconds on the clock is inexcusable though

europe is just so strong at hockey at the moment i would fancy both teams chances in last chance world qualifying groups unless the wheels come off completly

    • I still shocks, that a country of 4-5 million inhabitants? can be a powerhouse in almost every winter sport + handball, football (most recently with Haaland) and athletics: Ingebrigtsen, Warholm, etc. With such a small population, they can't be missing out on any major talent, surely? This must be the best training system in the world...
