Table Tennis WTT Series 2025

Recommended Posts

Not a good day to be a seeded player.  Of the 16 total seeded players, only half of them survived into the next round (including both #1 seeds).

And happy for Adriana Diaz :PUR for taking down Zhu Yuling :MAC !

Alexis :FRA exacts revenge on behalf of the Lebrun brothers and takes down #2 seed Tomokazu Harimoto :JPN .  Alexis was down 2-0 but then took the next three games in front of a wildly cheering crowd. :hyper:

Alexis :FRA takes down another seeded player (Darko Jorgic :SLO ).  That leaves only one seeded male in the semi-final round (Truls :SWE ).  Wang Yidi :CHN survives a quarter-final scare to be the last remaining Chinese athlete in the tournament, and the only seeded woman left.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's exciting conclusion!

Sabine Winter :GER is one to watch for sure.  She took Wang Yidi :CHN to the deciding game in the final, and making the score 9-9 in the final game before having Wang take the final two points.  She has a style of play rarely seen (I'm basing this on the commentating, as I don't know all the insides of table tennis), and Wang seemed baffled for much of the match.  In the end, it was the Chinese player who took the trophy, but Winter has caught my eye!

43,500 spectators during the tournament. A fantastic success according to everybody, And yet, it seems WTT wants to move it to Paris

Some unfortunate injuries for :CHN in the WTT Finals.  Sun Yingsha withdrew from her semifinal bout; however, she was still set to play in the XD finals with Wang Chuqin.  I didn't watch the bout, but it seems that both SYS and WCQ played the XD finals, but lost to  :KOR ; however, at some point, WCQ must have injured himself, as he withdrew from his own semifinal against Truls :SWE .  Couple that with a Lin Shidong loss to Harimoto :JPN , and we have a non-Chinese Men's Singles finals.

(But not to worry, China.  You still had an all-Chinese Women's Singles Final.) :)

    • Basically, NOCs can attempt to qualify in additional events without gaining athlete quotas. For example, let's say a nation already qualified in the 4- and 4x, they can use the athletes they plan to send in those events and try to qualify in the 8+. That's where the extra coxswains will be used. If a nation intends to attempt to double-up they must let World Rowing know before the final qualifier regatta.   There's a good chance the quotas may not be used and will have to be reallocated. Looking at 2024, only  would have been eligible for the men while the women there's . With that said there's no guarantee they would have wanted to double-up their athletes.   In reality we are more likely to see the reverse, nations who qualified in the 4x, 4-, or 8+ doubling-up athletes for the 1x, 2x, 2-.
    • Hey everyone, how are you all?   Reading the qualification document here and the "3 quotas for additional coxswain" is very confusing to me. Can someone (try to) explain to me please how those quotas will be assigned?    Thank you so much

    • In a country as big as , the odds of Olympians being close to you are quite small; however, once I realized several months ago that even a state as small as mine hosts Olympians on occasion, I decided to scour each sport's calendar to make sure I caught them when they come around.  That led me to the middle of nowhere in my own state today, where there was a 4* Eventing competition, featuring a couple of Olympians and/or World Champion athletes.   Most all the athletes here were local or from USA, but there were a couple who compete for   or .  When we walked up, I had no idea what I was doing.  I thought I was in the right arena at the venue, but I didn't really see anyone there.  (There weren't any stands full of spectators, nor did I see any judges...it was time for dressage.). One of the ladies turned around and we struck up conversation.  Turns out I was in the right spot, and they were just on a short break.  She directed my attention to the upcoming athlete, Caroline Pamukcu.  Thanks to my research ahead of time, I knew she was on the Paris 2024 Eventing Team.  The lady we were talking with was the owner of the horse Caroline was riding.  After she finished with her dressage round, she got off the horse and was just standing there talking with her crew.  We went over and had a brief chat and one of the other ladies offered to take our picture.     I asked Caroline if she was aiming for LA28, and she said yes.  I've also since shown the girls and wifey the video from her Paris 2024 jumping competition.  Hope she makes the team this year!   (Caroline has a Gold Individual Eventing and Silver Team Eventing medal from the 2023 PanAms.  Boyd Martin from the Paris team was also there, himself having a WCh Silver and three gold PanAms.  Tamra Smith, who has a Silver from the 2022 WCh, was there as well.  Waylon Roberts, who represents  and has a PanAm Silver competed.  I saw a few more Dressage rounds, then watched them all do the Jumping.  Didn't get to see Cross-Country, but they'll have another similar event in October.)
