so, after 5 of 6 gamedays, we already have (only) 7 teams mathematically through to the knockout stage

meanwhile there are still 11 teams fighting for the last 9 spots (the 2 teams with 5 points are not officially out, but their chances are just theoretical)

the most surprising/amazing situation is that, if the RS ended Today, the reigning champions :SUI Genève-Servette would be eliminated :yikes:

the thrilling RS finale is scheduled for the next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday 15th and 16th of October

so, after the first stint of games in the last gameday, the number of teams qualified to the knockout stages has increased to 12, meaning that there are still 4 places to be confirmed in the 2nd stint of the last gameday (Today)

defending champions, :SUI Genève-Servette, have just saved themselves with Yesterday's win in Hungary

now the biggest upset might be :CZE Dynamo Pardubice being eliminated, after reaching the semifinals in the previous campaign

    • My conclusion for this tournament:   Best team   Exceptional performance     Worst performance     Weak teams who did better than expected     unlucky teams
    • Cross-Country Skiing NOC Quota Standings as of February 2nd   These are the quotas that get allocated to NOCs after the basic quota (1 male + 1 female) is allocated to NOC's who have athletes that have the required amount of points. These standings are NOT the same as the World Cup Nations Cup. The Nations cup only gives points to the top 30 athletes in a race while the Olympic rankings give points to every athlete which partakes in a race and also includes World Championships and World Junior Championships results. I attempted to calculate the standings using this document as I don't believe the list has been made public yet.   4 quotas 3 quotas 2 quotas 1 quota   Men   Rank NOC Points 1 Norway 13185 2 Sweden 9254 3 France 8930 4 Finland 7746 5 United States 7291 6 Italy 6442 7 Germany 6336 8 Switzerland 6145 9 Czechia 4144 10 Canada 4037 11 Austria 4035 12 Great Britain 3434 13 Slovenia 3164 14 Estonia 3007 15 Australia 2129 16 Japan 1587 17 Latvia 1568 18 Poland 1441 19 Kazakhstan 1246 20 Andorra 1170 21 Spain 1170 22 Ireland 1161 23 Hungary 812 24 Ukraine 712 25 China 621 26 Thailand 336 27  Armenia 276 28 Romania 266 29 Slovakia 217 30  Bulgaria 193 31 Mongolia 137 32 Serbia 131 33 Argentina 118 34 Korea 115 35 Croatia 97 36 Chile 80 37 Colombia 76 38 North Macedonia 47 39 Lithuania 47 40 Belgium 45 41  Liechtenstein 39   Women   Rank NOC Points 1 Norway 12310 2 Sweden 10634 3 Finland 9539 4 Germany 9529 5 United States 8562 6 Switzerland 6329 7 France 5039 8 Italy 4680 9 Canada 4533 10 Czechia 4298 11 Austria 3636 12 Estonia 2190 13 Slovenia 1885 14 Kazakhstan 1677 15 Ukraine 1304 16 Australia 1203 17 Poland 588 18  Japan 510 19 Latvia 442 20 Chinese Taipei 194 21 Andorra 183 22 Armenia 131 23 Korea 122
    • That's good, and looking down on that page it seems like it will be available to watch on-demand as well. Which I think is arguably even more important for a streaming platform and which is why YouTube usually beats out every other way of live streaming
    • They did, and so did their Pairs figure skating team and speed skater.
    • A close match nonetheless!  gets their men's ice hockey campaign off to a successful start in Group B.
    • Uzbekistan may be able to get a medal in short track. I believe both of their athletes used to compete for Russia.
    • And competition has officially started.
    • End of an era 🫡   (being a *bit* tongue in cheek here :P )
    • Katerina Divari (sailing)   She is only 24 yo but has retired and will now be coaching instead. She competed at Tokyo 2020 but did not qualify for Paris 2024. I wonder if she would've continued if she made it to Paris...   https://www.instagram.com/p/DE-i1u9ujXS/?img_index=1
    • I am overwhelmingly convinced that if Shinhama had been in a different pair, he would not have seen. The Japanese ran on the man in the final straight and was fantastic by winning the sprint,
