  • 2 weeks later...

:ITA destroyed the field in the men's Team Pursuit qualifications with 3.53.659, which is a new world record (previous 3.53.9, also held by :ITA)

so, there's life after what was most likely the last Olympic ride by Super-Pippo Ganna in Paris

:FRA, :AUS and :GBR were second, third and fourth respectively, but all almost a lap behind :ITA

then, :ITA and :FRA won the semis and will meet tomorrow for the gold medal

in the women's TP qualifiers, it was :FRA to lead the field ahead of :GBR and :ITA (actually, :ITA were quite behind the top 2 teams)

meanwhile, :AUS Nicole Duncan won the women's Scratch

:CHN won the women's team Sprint (where :ITA won a really surprising bronze medal, even if some big Nations weren't at the start)

:CZE won the men's team Sprint

3.51.199 :yikes:

:ITA destroyed :FRA in the gold medal race of the men's Team Pursuit and recorded an amazing new junior world record, 2.5 seconds better than yesterday in the quali and semis (when they rode twice almost the same time)

:GBR beat :AUS for bronze

:FRA and :GBR will face each other in the women's TP gold medal race, after beating :CHI and :ITA respectively in the semis

:FRA Lucas Menanteau won the men's Scratch

Any idea how to rewatch today's afternoon session? UCI just points to this thing, but that's only from yesterday and even with Google Translate it's nearly impossible to navigate this 'website'.

I guess we have to wait for the same source to publish the next day (today)

given it's China, 24 hours delay it's still a good result :zip:

I spent an hour yesterday downloading Chinese video apps and no result, only future streams

Bring back the 1991 borders

Yeah but this link was there on day 1 already, excellent. However, they just didn't change it and so day 2 is nowhere to be found :d

    • Yes, she was unlucky, but it could just as easily have happened during some training, like with Gut, etc. Brignone has been essentially injury-free throughout her long career, which is very rare in this sport. It's unfortunate that this happened after her best season ever and just 1 year before the Olympic Games in home, when she just missing of win the Olympic gold medal in her great career. With the gold in Cortina, she would have become a legend of Italian skiing, on par with Tomba. Now she's still the best Italian woman in history, but the miss of Olympic gold will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
    • It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.   We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...
    • Mikaela Shiffrin  off the podium today (Edit: Oops...I thought this was slalom, not Giant Slalom.).  Nina Astner  entered the 2nd run in 30th place, but had the best second run, jumping up 18 places to 12th.
