The state of GB athletics is in a bit of a mess at the moment with regards to funding etc

 

Be interesting to see if Mollie can continue her improvement at those 4.80 heights and if Kerr can impress. Beyond that I’m not sure where else the Brits performances to shine will come from in Glasgow.

I wasn't here this evening but here's the roundup for the session:

Walcott-Nolan was second in his heat in 4:13.06 and through, while Bell was the same in 4:04.39

Pawlett was fifth in the long jump with 6.11 and 883 points. She was tenth in the 800m in 2:25.34 and 752 points. She came ninth overall with 4287 points

Lake came sixth with a season's best matching 1.92

Fogg was sixth in his heat in 3:48.47, but was qualified by the referee. Elson did not finish

Lincoln tenth with 20.36

Nielsen qualified third from semifinal 2 in 51.44

Yesterday, Caudery won the pole vault with 4.80.

King was fifth in his semi in 7.65 and out

Muir was fifth with a seasono's best 8:29.76, Nuttall twelth with an 8:48.24.

Kerr won gold (and what a gold it was) with 7:42.98

Nielsen was fourth with a personal best 50.89

 

So we're up to two medals, both gold

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
