Probably the lowest level field ever in a World Cup event, but who cares ? First ever :SVK WC podium :p, Silver in today´s sprint in Yeongdo for the Košice native Romana Gajdošová, yeah, the one who missed Tokyo by 1 place)

so congrats Romana for writing the country history then :d

Also 3 Slovaks in top 12, yeah, the level of the competiton was very clearly disastrously low lol

He's quite a strong athlete, but I assumed his main aim was 2028. Could he make a mad run at 2024?

I'd be surprised if Stapley was able to get himself into the top 30 to earn a quota place for GB - he is only counting 3 events from the first qualification period so he is starting from a pretty low base.

That being said, I do think he could have a chance of being selected for the team if GB are able to get 3 quota places for the men's event so that he could act as a domestique. He has no illusions that he is going to be challenging for a podium finish and instead knows that if selected, his role would be to protect and support Yee - a role he's shown that he is willing to do having taken that role in the WTCS final last month. I don't see either Brownlee or Izzard being willing to "sacrifice" their own chances of a top 20 finish in favour of Yee's chances to get a medal.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
