Well, whatever small dream our handball team had for Rio is over: Diego Simonet broke his cruciate ligament and is out for 8 months.

Very strong rumors that the 3 overage players for the olympics will be Geronimo Rulli (GK, Real Sociedad), Ramiro Funes Mori (CB, Everton) and Mateo Musacchio (CB, Villarreal).

I agree that we needed two defenders since it's the weakest line of our U23 team. I would have chosen a midfielder instead of a goalie though, but it's not that bad.

I will make today my prediction for the 18 player list (not what I would pick, it's what I think the coach will select) let's see how many I get right at the end :d this list is assuming all the clubs agree to release the players however:

Spoiler

GK:

Geronimo Rulli

Augusto Batalla (River Plate)

DF:

José Luis Gomez (Lanus)

Emanuel Mammana (River)

Ramiro Funes Mori

Mateo Musacchio

Jonathan Silva (Boca)

MF:

Matias Kranevitter (Atlético Madrid)

Andrés Cubas (Boca)

Lucas Romero (Cruzeiro)

Manuel Lanzini (West Ham)

Giovani Lo Celso (Rosario Central)

Lucas Ocampos (Olympique Marseille)

FW:

Paulo Dybala (Juventus)

Luciano Vietto (Atlético Madrid)

Angel Correa (Atlético Madrid)

Jonathan Calleri (Sao Paulo)

Cristian Espinoza (Huracán)

OUT: Icardi  since Martino doesn't like him.

Remember the CADDA determinate in Maraton that "a bette Mark " the the IOC requiere, for that reason Barzola, Rosa Godoy and Sandra Amarillo are not qualified for Rio, obviusly this is another stupid decision of the terrorific president of the CADDA.

I know that, I'm just counting all the quota we have, even if provisional. I will remove them if at the end they are rejected.

And for me it's not a stupid decision, I'm tired of sending a bunch of people that end in last place or abandon the race. We should have harder standars in all "mark" sports, if it were up to me.

I agree partially with you: if we send some B Marks, of old athletes like in the past.......of course i agree but in Maraton is diferent than other specialitys, i dont expect any medal or diplom in the Maraton anyway,

With qualification in Gymnastics we have 189 athletes confirmed

Only 11 to go to achieve the round number and -curiously- all-time record of 200.

I think we'll have for sure 3 in Judo, 2 in BMX, 2 male golfers, 4 male tennis players and 1 female pentathlete. 2 or 3 more swimmers is likely too. And quotas in Triathlon, MTB and Kayaking are also in the cards.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
    • and Artistic Gymnastics is "Sporting Gymnastics" while Rythmic Gymnastics is god know why "Modern Gymnastics"
