    • as if there were more Nations seriously participating in things like BMX Freestyle, Lacrosse, Flag Football and so on    make it an Olympic sport and we'll see how many Nations start competing (just an example: look at the Karate usual medal tables before it was named Olympic and then look at the same medal tables in the 5-year span when it had the Olympic status...I know it's different than just participating, but still)   the Olympic aura changes everything for those non (fully) professional disciplines
    • if it's going to replace some of the non-sport judged activities that inflate the Olympic schedule right now, it's a big, big YES!
    • yes, this is a first time in the MLB, but it did happen before in the minors (a player named Dale Holman in 1986), but the distance between the start and the resume of that game was actually a lot bigger than in this case   however, the world of US PRO sports* is filled with some crazy "market moves", with players traded in the middle of a game and/or playing twice in a day for 2 different teams   https://www.mlb.com/news/joel-youngblood-two-hits-for-two-teams   https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/panthers-grimaldi-plays-two-games-in-one-day/   *actually, it happened also in football (European version, AKA soccer)    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2009/oct/07/football-questions-trivia-the-knowledge

    • I thought that'd make for a cool little article in Dutch, but then....damn, how is he not Dutch with that name?     So the only Danny Jansen in Dutch sports remains this mullet and the body that's attached to it.
    • Some people, yes. Most casual viewers only watch the Tour anyway and especially in recent years a lot of fans have enjoyed the Tour more than the other two. Vuelta and Giro used to be better though, yes. Vuelta wasn't helped with a billion stages with the same profile: __________/
    • Daria Pikulik said she will take a two year break from track cycling and *maybe* decides to return after that IF the situation in our cycling federation gets better (hint: it probably won't).   She will focus on road racing going forward.   https://infosport.pl/aktualnosci-2024-sport-zawodowy/kolarstwo/daria-pikulik-zrywa-z-kolarstwem-torowym-winny-zwiazek
    • I think the problem wasn't so much the number of events but the number of sports which mushroomed from 14 to 22 between Stockholm and Antwerp.   The extra costs and organisation of putting on additional athletics and swimming events for example would be minimal. However, taking on eight new sports was an entirely different matter.
    • The sport program blew up in 1920, it went from 102 events in 1912 to 156 events in 1920. By 1928, the program was down to 109 events.
    • Good story about tug-of-war’s history at the Olympics.  According to this story, it was taken off the program after the 1920 Olympics because the IOC thought there were too many sports in the Games and they wanted to streamline things.     http://www.tugofwar.co.uk/olympics-history
