Really weird tournament so far with Australia advancing ahead of Hungary and Serbia in Group B and Montenegro getting eliminated in the group stage.

Not sure what to make of this, other than the fact that Italy and Spain look the strongest, but the real competition will only start in the playoffs.

It should have been easier for us to win this quota because this team is a still medal contender for Paris. But at the very least we got it in the end, and that's what matters. And now let's get to the final.

So the bracket is looking like...

:ESP v :MNE or :ROU

:GRE v :ITA or :USA

:SRB v :CRO or :BRA / :CHN

:HUN v :FRA or :AUS

Teams who haven't already qualified to Paris: :MNE  :ROU  :ITA  :SRB  :CRO  :BRA  :CHN

I don't see any good reason to doubt that :SRB  :CRO  :ITA  :MNE will qualify. I guess :ROU has a small chance for an upset.

There will be more chances for Spain to get into the Olympics, faring well on the next WC will do, but tough luck to blow it like that.

Yeah, I can't see any of the top nations missing.

Host - :FRA

World - :GRE  :HUN

Europe - :ESP or :ITA

America - :USA

Asia - :JPN

Africa - :RSA

Oceania - :AUS

World - :ESP or :ITA  + :SRB  :CRO  :MNE

I can't even see which team would be able to shake things up here, this Top12 is solid. And if :RSA refuses the quota, :CAN would be the obvious alternate. This might be the most rock solid lineup out of all the team sports in Paris.

it would be better if Italy or Greece qualified for Europe. because Hungary is much stronger and will have the best chance of beating Canada and Australia.

Continental qualification comes before the second World qualification. Which means that Australia will take the Oceania quota at the 2024 WCh no matter what. Unless somehow New Zealand take it from them, but that's almost impossible.

And now :AUS will literally play for the :NZL quota. I mean, they are also playing to reach the WCh final, but in terms of the Olympic qualification this will determine that whether we get one more European team or Canada in Paris, or New Zealand. Nothing against New Zealand, but their qualification would be kinda terrible. Canada at the very least is capable of beating a top European team on their best day. New Zealand would be a punching bag in Paris.

I want a :GRE v :HUN final because that's something we haven't seen before and we could take proper revenge for the Tokyo SF. As classic as the Serbia-Hungary finals are, I have seen enough of those. And losing another quota to Spain would suck. I am tired of losing to Spain. They beat us at the Women Eurobasket in the semi and they beat us here in the women's tournament. Going 0/3 against them in team sports this year would be cruel, give us at least one win.

Now watch the final to be :SRB v :ESP:d

Italy might as well win the entire competition at this point, but for now I am assuming that their miracle wasn't something that they can repeat, and :NED + :ESP will take the quotas. If we ignore the giant Italian upset, this would be logical conclusion if you remove the US and Hungary from the table. I mean, apart from that one huge upset literally everything went down the most predictable way so far. But Italy did beat the Dutch at the Euros 3rd place match last year, so who knows...

Very bizarre situation at our match. 4 minutes exclusion for the US, which is something I have never seen on a match this important. And then the refs exclude our goalkeeper and then another Hungarian player, so we had a 4v5 situation without a goalkeeper, which might be the single weirdest moment of a water polo match I have ever seen.
