Australia and Canada having a stronger women's team relative to their men probably contributes to the European imbalance. Those two nations plus the United States don't leave much for the rest of the world. Throw in a few individuals from China, Japan and South Africa and Europe doesn't have too many opportunities.

Any word on which events McIntosh will compete in at the Olympics?

I guess the biggest question mark from an individual event perspective is whether or not she will compete in the 200m free as the final overlaps with the 400 IM final. Five individual events would be very hard to compete, but if any swimmer is to pull it off in 2024 it would be her.

The 4x200m free overlaps with the 200m fly final, but it's hard to think she would miss the final. Another question is whether she competes in the 4x100m free which overlaps with the 400m free event. Losing Sanchez hurts our depth, but we may still be good enough to medal.

Looking at the start lists for the Baltic States Championships only two swimmers have entry times that are under the OQT, :LTU Kotryna Teterevkova (women's 100m and 200m breaststroke) and :EST Eneli Jefimova (women's 100m breaststroke). A few other athletes have entry times close to the OQT. Will they be among the first to qualify to the Olympics? Results can be seen here.

As for the other event, MM Maribor, start lists haven't been posted yet. The event page can be found here.

I remember that for the 2020 Olympics, the approved events for the 2019 Worlds were also approved events for the Olympics (provided they occurred during the qualification period), but I can't find if that's true for the 2024 Olympics.

I guess we'll find out rather quickly if athletes from the Pro Swim Series in Fort Lauderdale appear on the Olympic qualification list.

Interesting story about Kharun

He was initially going to represent :USA at the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, but it turned out he wasn't a US citizen and was actually born in :CAN . Unsurprisingly, Canada was quick to scoop him up. Hopefully he stays with us.

Great championship for Canada. Even on our men's side we are starting to get some depth, Ilya Kharun may be a person to watch.

Now if only we can get some progress in breaststroke. The women's side is getting better, but on the men's side it was backstroke specialist Javier Acevedo who did the breaststroke leg during the relay final.

FINA has removed the 25km open water events from next WCh citing low number of participants in relation to the costs...bah.

Not sure why they would bring cost as a reason. The 5km and 10km courses are there, it's just more laps (yes sometimes they use a slightly longer course, but if the cost of some extra buoys and officials is really too much, just use the same course). It would be like cutting the 10,000m in athletics and citing costs as a reason.

Personally I feel participation is at an okay level, definitely not enough to be considered for the Olympics, but enough for World Championships. Especially since it's at the same level of some diving and artistic swimming events.
