the first fencing world ranking (FWR) announced, but I tried to understand how the ranking is calculated but I failed ..any explanation would be great.
few observations on the first major tournament:
- live score board (on screen) needs some improvements such as:
- the fencing piste colours are consistently wrong between the scoreboard and real game (the red and green colours)
- shooting screen in combined phase is very bad, time is stuck or continue even when the player finished, also the green (good shot dots) are not always working
- at the beginning I didn't like the score board on the left hand side but later I got used to it which is not bad in my opinion now.
- showing the the round in fencing will be beneficial to understand is it QF, R 16 ..etc and expect the score accordingly
- the fencing screen in the left hand side is confusing (location of the score compared to name is not very clear) and it's more confusing when you notice that the colour is wrongly switched (see first point)
- Obstacles is fun to watch (I wasn't expecting that) and young athletes are taking it to very high leve,. also surprised with some good actions from experienced athletes such as Belaud, Shabaan & Gulyas.
- Equestrian was not fair but more thrilling, here Obstacles is more fair and not boring. Personally, I liked Equestrian more but I can understand why obstacles is more favourable for some others.
- new scoring of fencing is better, even difference in points was adjusted to become more close to swimming weight (main deciders now are obstacles and combined).
- waiting Fencing World Ranking list to know how does it work and how they calculate this new ranking.

The UIPM fencing format has been changed starting from the ongoing world cup season
in qualification:
the format is the same conventional one when the player play a one touch game against the opponent in his group
but starting from semifinal there will be a seeding round (with no actual points) and based on the seeding order a knockout stage will start with 1 minute round and whoever gets 5 points wins (or the leader after 1 minute finish)
also the double touch are counted similar to conventional Epee
still not very clear if Olympics will start from seeding or start with normal point round in semi and seeding only in final
The familiar names in men competition are:
Shabaan & Moataz Mohamed
Bereczki, Koleszar and Tamas
Morcia and surprisingly Valentine Belaud
Tovkai
Micheli and Cicinelli
Maruk
Cicinelli is the best ranked athlete in Paris Olympics who participate in this tournament (he finished 5th)
Only live scoring on UIPM App & paid subscription on UIPM TV (starting from Semi-Final)
the kick start of the UIPM season is today with first World Cup in
the first season with Obstacles and no more Equestrian competition, therefore a lot of familiar names are not participating.
The familiar names in women competition are:
Malak Ismail & the 14 yrs old Farida Khalil
Michelle Gulyas, Blanka Guzi, Rita Erdos & Blanka Bauer
Rebecca Castaudi
Mariya Gnedtchik
most of the remaining names are U 19 or just participating in major tournaments for the first time.
some main countries are not participating (in women competition) in this run such as
Hopefully this would be a good start of the season for MP fans.

Kate French falls sick and pulls out of the final.
Annika Zillekens scheduled to start as replacement after finishing 10th in semi A
she is not as good as previous in Laser Run but wish her speedy recovery. Annika is lucky ...till the horse see her
Except few players participated in Paris Olympics, I am expecting around 30 new names will be in Los Angeles with Obstacles replacing Equestrian.
Assuming equestrian going well for all (which never happened) .. Woongtae and the two Egyptians
El-Gendy & Shabaan are the medal contenders so far .. with some challenges from Prades
Today is the fencing ranking round
the results will be a good indication for the competition but not guaranteed specially with two Equestrian rounds in SF and F
I don't understand UIPM & IOC ..they was arguing a lot to eliminate Equestrian from the sport .. and in Paris there will be double equestrian rounds in SF and F .. none sense.

you may need to update it again .. the official ranking just updated on the midnight to reflect the results from Madrid challenge event ..sorry for the bad news
Expandyes World Championship is not part of the Olympic ranking ..I presume the delay of updating the ranking due to the delay of submitting the results.
full results just populated on UIPM website few days ago ...however normally they update the ranking the day after the tournment (happened in Polish open and European games)
This is a pure guess ..since the ranking has been updated to include Asian games results it means that the Africa / Oceania championship will not be counted towards the qualification ranking because of the number of entries or diversity of participating nations.
note that:
in Asian games men event Woongtae Jun claimed 60 points being the men champion while Mingyu Zhang
(women champion) claimed only 40 points
therefore I put my guess assuming the points depend on the entries.
yes World Championship is not part of the Olympic ranking ..I presume the delay of updating the ranking due to the delay of submitting the results.

The qualification guideline was showing that African /Oceania championship is counted towards Olympic Ranking, but the UIPM ranking has not been updated. Is it just a mistake or they will update it later or there are some changes to qualification procedure?
Expandfor Junior WCH will it be u21 or u22 , it's always U21 , but UIPM wrote in a post that it will be U22
My interpretation it鈥檚 for athletes born on 2002 and younger
Two Egyptians and two Australians qualified to paris via African & Oceania Championships 馃弳
Malak Ismail 馃嚜馃嚞
Ahmed ElGendy 馃嚜馃嚞
Genevieve van Rensburg馃嚘馃嚭
Rhys Lanskey 馃嚘馃嚭
As usual, no media or any pages following up the results of this direct qualification tournment ..if someone can find out a link or live score tool that would be great.
UIPM website and app not covering
Egyptian PM and UIPM facebook page no mention at all
Oceania website just some news about the participants
Some general observations:
still showing determined performance and still one of the top teams men and women
great women team but the men team needs huge boosting
just unlucky this tournament, still favourable for future world and Olympic medals
the strongest men team so far, epic laser run between three team mates, women team is average
no longer strong team, they will be in olympics but not that strong anymore
a big question mark, very bad performance from great names, needs huge improvement and they have 1 year till the Olympics
seems average team, can鈥檛 see them on the Olympic podium
men team needs more fencing quality, women team is average
very strong women team but consistency between displines needs improvement, men team is average
not this Olympic I presume maybe the next one if MP still there 馃槈
very good team men and women, Mariana put too much effort in the first 800m laser run and she paid it in a hard way, still dangerous team if they keep their fencing performance up
one of the strongest men and women teams, but if they are not 1st or 2nd before laser run they will not make the podium
what do you reckon?
ExpandBest possible result for
to secure their second women's quota. With both Italians already qualified for Paris, there will now be 8 quotas awarded through the Olympic Ranking List.
I think 9 qoutas now to olympic ranking, host nation quota already allocated whem Marie Oteiza qualified

Many thanks mate
the part I have missed earlier is the ranking points awarded to athletes based on their performance in the seeding round not the direct elimination round nor the ranking round during qualification
The FWR now is matching the results from the seeding round
