  1. Well there’s no point for those athletes because there’s no continental quota and there not as good as the top 5-10 countries. Also I can almost say with certainty that there’s no skateparks in most African countries. We have towns with a population of 3,000 that have class A skateparks in California, that just simply isn’t the case in Africa. Now, them having street broadens makes sense because in big cities it would possible to skate street style. Especially in the peaceful (or at least had been until recently (here’s looking at you Benin)) countries like the ones above because their would To time for someone to skate.
  2. The African street quota has now been corrected and shown going to Benin. The Liberian is less than 100 points behind, so anything is still possible.
  3. Did they meet the MQS because this is the weakest event on the program
  4. Damn 9.8 from Paul in the sprint qualification. That is definitely good enough for Olympic participation. I’ve been watching these guys come up the ranks the last few years and it’s been awesome. On a sadder note @mrv86, both Mexican men were eliminated in sprint qualifications.
  5. I was referring more to Venice I guess. They had a lot of influence over that region
  6. Well nothing really existed in certainty in that period besides France, Spain, GB. Eastern Europe was just a bunch of loosely connected kingdoms among somewhat murky ethnic lines.
  7. I’d be happy to see either country at the Olympics if I’m being completely honest. It would almost certainly be Liberia’s only sport outside swimming and athletics. I think Benin should get a fencer, so I’d prefer Liberia.
  8. I think this counts as improvement https://twitter.com/i/events/1157211647141769216
  9. These Surfing SUP races suck!! They’re so boring. Why are they broadcasting this over the 15 other sports I’d much rather watch.
  10. The government of Kentucky claims they’re not killing the fish (scientists seem to loosely back them up), but they honestly should. Asian Carp are an invasive species that have been threaten already struggling natural species for years.
  11. Generally with great commentary too. This isn’t the Olympic qualification event right?
  12. Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (I’m not joking they weren’t original with the title). It comes out in Europe next year, so there’s not a lot of information of stuff like that yet. I would imagine I will be though.
  13. 1915 was when the Arab guerrilla war against the Ottomans began. It was funded by GB and France was a way to distract the Ottomans from World War 1. After the war, England and France made those lands colonies. They got rid of traditional governments and suppressed some culture. Saudi Arabia filled one of the power gaps after the British and French left after World War 2. They left a divided Israel, and lands in complete disarray.
  14. I was going mention that as their worst and most inexcusable moment, but I just didn’t get around to it.
  15. Puerto Rico has voted against both independence and statehood multiple times. Unlike the European powers, we actually let our territories hold referendums on independence when they choose. Your country never had any colonies because it was to busy being one. Remind me who ruled Poland? Lithuania, Russia, Prussia, Italy, Austria-Hungary? I think your right globalization won’t work because there’s too many against it for foolish reasons. Muslim and Christian cultures have blended in places peacefully for centuries, but the stronger powers on sides have tried to stop it.
  16. All I can say is that American colonists were definitely inspired by some white people (Europe). Yes, my country spent years killing Native Americans. It was wrong and they deserve their lands back and reparations. It would propose moving reservations back to more historic lands and then promoting cultural education. I’d also like to point out that we weren’t the first to the idea of slavery. That would be the Italian and Portuguese and last time I checked those were two very European countries. I also wouldn’t say the revolution was based on nationalism and there’s a lot of evidence to support that claim. The difference between the US and Europe is that over the last century we tried to fix our mistakes (at least parts of the country have) while Europe has essentially just tried to gloss over theirs.
  17. I’m well aware of that, but the Ottomans still held a great deal of European territory from circa 1500 to 1850. Also Poland wasn’t a country then (it was to week to defend itself during multiple partions), maybe Lithuania was, but it has lost most of its historical holdings in Poland. Also I’d say the defeat of the Moors in France did more to stop the Islamization of Europe. Also a reminder that Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania were independent at this time and remained independent to this day. But since there seems to be this false European notion that Islam is the devils religion let’s get a few things straight. Christians lead a holy war (jihad), actually around 9 of them against Islam over 2/3 centuries, They forced them off the continent (not really a problem besides European historians always painting them as heretics and savages), they murder many in the Spanish and Greater European Inquisition (as well as Jews because heaven forbid they go a single century without someone trying to murder them all), colonized their lands, treated them as second class to this day, produced anti-Islam propaganda, and much more. I’d say that some of the Middle Eastern actions in the last century and over history are some what justified or at the very least understandable. Europeans have spent the last 1000 years driving a wedge between themselves and Islam. It’s not shocking that Muslim countries suffer from extremism and that Europe suffers from islamaphobia (as well as anti-Semetism, racism, xenophobia, misogyny, bigotry, etc.) It all comes down to how Europe has treated the rest of the world since around 100 BC. It’s not shocking that a lot of countries have problems with western culture, I don’t blame them I hate much of it myself. I just think people need a better understanding of way we disagree, so that we can at least try repair some relationships. I’m obviously a globalist, I see absolutely ZERO need for nationalism. I’m fairly disgusted by most governments and country’s currently. It probably won’t even matter since we’re all killing the planet and my generation will be the first to completely live with the consequences.
  18. It used too actually and @MHSN can back me up here. The Middle East was very different before 1915 and after 1960.
  19. Albania, Kosovo, and Bosnia would like to disagree about the Ottoman part. (I’m a little rusty on my Balkan history, but I believe parts of Bulgaria were under Ottoman rule, or at least influence, too). In all fairness the Ottoman Empire and classic Islam were much more tolerant of Christians than Christians were of them. Western Colonization and the World Wars changed the Middle East for the worse. Europeans allowed for extremism to grow in the Middle East. I’d say their reactions to the west are fair in many ways actually.
  20. That was a fun omnium. I throughly enjoyed all 4 races today.
  21. I never realized how popular London 2012 was and what a cult following it has. People are really upset that the Tokyo 2020 isn’t similar, as where I’m happy it’s not. The big deal breaker for people is the reduction of the events, but I think Tokyo 2020 makes up for that in its other features. Obviously we won’t really know how good it is until global release when it will have some online tournament and stuff, but I’m optimistic about it. It is a bit arcade like and it does borrow quite a few gameplay features from the Mario and Sonic games, but oh well.
