  1. There’s a lot of families in the U.S. that open one gift on Christmas Eve, and then the open the rest on Christmas.
  2. I do enjoy a good Rosca de Reyes Some of my Latin American classmates would bring those to class on the 6th (or before, if we were still on winter break that date).
  3. @Jur @Cobi do either of your families employ the “Cagatio” thing in lieu of Santa Claus? I just learned about that practice this year.

  6. @hckošice do you guys not celebrate on the 25th then? The 24th is Christmas Eve in Of course, families celebrate on different days/times according to different traditions brought over from Europe or Latin America.
  7. 16:00 to 21:00 in California. Seems perfect to me
  8. The US state of Minnesota just changed there's as well: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67778942
  9. NBC posted a write-up about Daniela Moroz, which our Czech/Slovak users might find interesting: https://www.nbcsports.com/olympics/news/daniela-moroz-sailing-kite-olympics
  10. Gran Torino (the e-racing inspired movie) recently came out on Netflix in the US. Race (the Jesse Owens film) is on Netflix (at least in the US). Rush (Nikki Lauda story) is available too. Unbroken is also on Netflix (in the US) at the moment. The Grizzlies (it's about lacrosse in a remote village) is another option. The Redeem Team (2008 USA basketball team documentary) is also available. Field of Dreams (baseball themed drama) is also on there. The Swimmers (Mardini bio-pic) was good enough in my opinion. It's another option.
  11. Karlsruhe has emerged as a likely candidate (if not host) for The World Games 2029. It would be the first city to host twice.
  12. Oscars’ shortlists have been published for 10 categories: https://aframe.oscars.org/news/post/96th-oscars-shortlists?utm_campaign=later-linkinbio-theacademy&utm_content=later-40025166&utm_medium=social&utm_source=linkin.bio I’m still making my way through the festival hits, but I’d say this is a pretty good year in film. There’s a not insignificant chance that more than one foreign film (maybe even three) and more than one animated film get nominated for best picture, which would be neat. I’ll post my full thoughts on the season in the a few weeks.
  13. I do plan to vote. I can do it today, but an extra few days might be nice. I’m sure a lot of people are busy preparing for the various end of year holidays this week.
  14. Schism emerging over surfing venue in Tahiti. Paris 2024 statement: https://press.paris2024.org/news/organisation-of-surfing-competitions-for-the-olympic-games-in-teahupoo-reaction-to-the-international-surfing-associations-proposal-62a5-7578a.html
  15. I guess the benefit of the doubt when enacting polities after entering office is only given to right wing politicians
  16. It’s almost like funding youth sports programs in sports with generous qualification systems pays off
  17. @Swewi is competitive on the Swedish curling circuit. I believe they have played in the Olympic trials before. @Vojthas (who hasn’t been active for a while ) competes in the Polish club league for curling. @John Foyne won a medal in American Football at The World Games 2017. He’s active in flag football at present (I believe). @IoNuTzZ is/was a competitive 400m runner I believe (not sure about the level). There may be a few more people active at the national/club level, but I’m not sure. @Agger @heywoodu have both done half marathons in the past if memory serves. @Josh is a swimmer, but I don’t have any idea about the level (I’d assume local/youth).
  18. We should recognize some of the athletic achievements of members during these awards at some point. We've got people chasing Olympic qualification, running half marathons, setting PRs in the pool, etc. It might be fun to have a more inward category/honor at some point (maybe not even voted on, but just some acknowledgment during the ceremony for those bothering to turn off the livestreams and go do something)
  19. will not be awarded a quota in alpine skiing (barring any last minutes reallocations/invite)
  20. @rafalgorka "The Winter Youth Olympic Games will be filmed for live television and digital streaming on Olympic Channel via. Olympics.com and our app, with full session replays and highlights also available." - from an article posted recently on Olympics.com
  21. The athlete had a high ranking, so probably met internal criteria.
