  1. PanamSports may have wanted Paraguay to keep their focus on the 2025 Junior Pan American Games as well. I can definitely see that being a cosideration at least.
  2. They have an athlete who may be able to get a quota in the women's 400m hurdles. In that case, I'd assume they'd use the invitation to send a male athlete.
  3. Lima isn't without risks given the politcal instability of the last few years, but if they have done some upkeep on the venues, you'd hope infrastructure costs will be low. Also, assuming most of the venues are still viable, it will be interesting to see what they do with the sports program.
  4. also won their first gold medal at the winter deaflympics in men's team classic chess event
  5. won the Asian derby for the gold medal in men's futsal. I believe this is their first gold medal (or possibly a medal of any color) at the Winter Deaflympics.
  6. Some interesting extracurricular drama in the v. women's futsal match. There was seemingly an incident between supporters in stands, but it's hard to figure out what happened since the broadcast has no commentary or raw audio. The Brazilian supporters seemed to complain about someone making a racist gesture or something similar based the their fury (and the gesture they kept doing). Anyway, that stopped the match dead for a minutes while it was sorted out. eventually won a very contested match, even after lsoing a player to a red card (second yellow given after a very poor sideline challenge) with just under nine minutes to go in the second half. They even increased their lead while playing down a player. I only watched the broadcast towards the end, but I might have to check out the rest of the match at some point.
  7. It definitely wasn't my favorite, but there wasn't really a standout in the category either, in my opinion. The Zone of Interest would probably be my personal pick.
  8. I did complie a list of films I watched in 2023. You can find my thoughts and ratings for most of them here: https://boxd.it/ti5Xg$WfClDvILULgq0r9T
  9. Oppenheimer is one of those films where I can’t really find a fault with it (at least any substantial one). It’s just a well-made film through and through, in my opinion. I didn’t captivate me as much or touch my soul to the same degree as Past Lives, but I can respect it‘s win. There really aren’t any winners I totally disagree with outside of War is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko in animated short.
  10. Oppenheimer takes the big prize. It was expected, and a good choice in my opinion.
  11. Dann, I really wanted Poor Things to win score. I’ve been listening to it pretty regularly for the last two months. Oppenheimer did have a good score too though.
  12. I thought it was fun. It was great movie to go out and see with my friends and family. I do think it honestly injected some life back into the film scene in the US.
  13. Well, Diane Warren needs her nomination
  14. The Last Repair Shop wins! I wasn’t certain, but I’m so happy. It’s such a great love letter to power of music, education, and the beauty of Los Angeles
  15. My predictions are holding strong so far…only one miss in makeup
  16. Possible Greek connection for the men's 200m backstroke gold medalist Denilson Cuprianos @Makedonas?
  17. Teeluck bags her nation another gold medal in the women's 200m backstroke
  18. A swimming podium without or ? There's something you don't see often Wanternaar takes the men's 100m breaststroke final. also on the podium.
  19. Amirali also missed a skiing medal in giant slalom by 0.07 seconds.
  20. @MHSN v. will play for the gold medal in men's futsal on Tuesday. It should livestreamed on the ICSD YouTube Channel. v. will play for the women's title.
  21. Getting beat by is definitely an interesting way for them start
  22. I will be overjoyed if this beautiful film wins in the documentary category. It hit me really hard as someone who worked as journalist and believes there's value in saving vital information. I thought it was edited and composed so well.
  23. Strong possiblity I was waiting for @vinipereira to post his picks/predicrtions, so I could burrow/steal his formatting. Anyway, here's my Oscar thoughts:
