  1. After Day 7 Rio: 118/306 events, 62 NOCs with medals After Day 7 Tokyo: 133/339 events, 70 NOCs with medals On the seventh day in Rio, the US team ran away from the rest (20-13-17 in Rio). Now they chase China (13-10-14 in Rio) which had their best day yet. Japan (7-3-14 in Rio) continues to bring joy to their fans. With more to come, they have already surpassed the 1964 Olympics in terms of gold medals won (16). With Russians also keeping the pace (5-9-8 in Rio), we should continue to see an exciting battle for the first four places until the end. Success also for the Australians (5-6-7 in Rio), already more Olympic victories than in Rio. Big improvements so far by the Czechs (1-0-1 in Rio). Absolutely on their way making it the most successful summer games in history. Uganda back after not medalling last time and also tying 1968 and 1972 for most medals one in one summer games. It's not looking good yet for the Spaniards (3-0-2 in Rio). Some of their stronger events are yet to come but after a good performance at the recent judo world championships had them dreaming of converting that into medals. They leave judo in Tokyo without. The highest-placing team at that point still without medal here (aside from the absent North Koreans) is Sweden (1-2-1 in Rio). 4th place counter* (14) (12) (9) (7) (6) (5) (4) (3) (2) (1) and the Refugee Olympic Team *5th places in events that award two bronze medals
  2. Awesome! Ma Long becomes the first player to win the Men's Singles twice. Fan Zhendong will have to wait until Paris (if he gets selected by then). Beautiful kits by the way, but no red shirt this time. The Dragon in black with purple dragon today while Fan with a yellow dragon on blue.
  3. Not too surprising Riner couldn't fight for gold but at least he finishes with a medal. Took Azerbaijan a while to get their first medal at these games.
  4. After Day 6 Rio: 94/306 events, 55 NOCs with medals After Day 6 Tokyo: 112/339 events, 66 NOCs with medals Consistent medalling by the top guns once again. with an improvement (11-8-11 in Rio) until this point while the Americans have gone down slightly (16-12-10 in Rio) due to dominating less in the pool this time. Almost the same nations in the Top 10 now as five years ago. Only Hungary (5-1-1 in Rio) not finding themselves in that list right now. Instead we have the French in 8th (11th in Rio with 2-4-5 in medals). Croatia now one bronze better (2-0-0 in Rio) and there's a guaranteed gold and silver coming their way tomorrow. Alessandra Perilli wins San Marino's first ever medal! 4th place counter* (11) (8) (7) (6) (5) (4) (3) (2) (1) and the Refugee Olympic Team *5th places in events that award two bronze medals
  5. How does it look for you now after six days have passed? The trend looks more a bit more positive but feelings have remained mixed after the first four days. After Day 2: 5,03 After Day 4: 5,63
  6. Chen really wanted this and she got it. Good match.
  7. Good tournament for Yu Mengyu but Mima-chan wins the bronze.
  8. Yes, that should take off the pressure from the Chinese men. Fan Zhendong looked nervous as heck. @thepharoah What did Omar Assar encourage himself with yesterday? I understood "yallah" which I know but what were the other two? Something like "Hikmet" which is a name and something with "om"?
  9. The winning team will be the first to have more than one gold after 9 events.
  10. After Day 5 Rio: 73/306 events, 50 NOCs with medals After Day 5 Tokyo: 95/339 events, 62 NOCs with medals The top three continuing to collect multiple gold medals, now running away from the Russians and Australia now comparable to Rio (5-2-5) thanks to Ariarne Titmus and a strong rowing performance. The games have now started for the Netherlands as well with medal haul of eight today. We're also seeing a renaissance of Austrian sports given the disappointments in previous summer games (0-0-0 in London; 0-0-1 in Rio). Historical day for the Fiji national rugby 7s team as they repeated the success from the Rio games, while Hong Kong will end the games with most medals won at a single Olympics, no matter what. The Tokyo Olympics are slowly shaping up to be a disappointment for the Italians. Certainly not in total medals (3-6-2 in Rio) but still only Dell'Aquila their lone Olympic champion so far. One also notes the high number of 4th* place finishes. Kazakhstan way behind their Rio performance thus far (2-2-3 in Rio) and same can be said about Vietnam (1-1-0 in Rio) without Hoàng Xuân Vinh. 4th place counter* (9) (7) (6) (5) (4) (3) (2) (1) and the Refugee Olympic Team *5th places in events that award two bronze medals
  11. Definitely one of the most exciting new additions. Estonian and Latvian gold: check. Now Lithuania's turn somewhere.
  12. Too much to follow and priorities. I haven't even touched artistic gymnastics until today.
  13. Which means that one of Heo/ Cordón/ Caljouw will be in the semis.
  14. Can Takyi beating Caicedo be considered an upset?
  15. After Day 4 Rio: 55/306 events, 46 NOCs with medals After Day 4 Tokyo: 72/339 events, 56 NOCs with medals Still a long way to go but with 56 NOCs on the medal table, we're just 30 away from equalling the Rio figure. Right now, it looks good on getting there. First ever medal for Turkmenistan deserves a mention. The fierce battle between the top 4 continues. Expectedly, Japan with the biggest improvement so far even leading the table. In Rio, Japan won 14 medals (3-1-10). Much more bronze medals have been converted into gold. Russia also impressive (3-6-3 in Rio). Statistically speaking, the US team slightly behind the Rio counter (9-8-9) by a bronze but with more events finished. Canada with an impressive performance so far (0-1-4 in Rio) and Brazil benefiting from the new additions of skateboarding and surfing. Australia has not yet won an Olympic gold outside of swimming, neither have the Koreans outside of archery. Hungary and Italy not were they were five years ago right now. Still missing out on medals that had some by the time in Rio: Greece, Poland, Sweden, among others. 4th place counter* (6) (5) (4) (3) (2) (1) and the Refugee Olympic Team *5th places in events that award two bronze medals
  16. 4 days have passed already. Have your feelings changed over the last days? The average after Day 2 had an approximate mood value of 5,03.
  17. Years ago, Harimoto was considered the prodigy to challenge the Chinese. Now he's lost to Jorgic.
  18. What a fight by Argentina. Also have to say I like a lot of the team and referee kits here, beautiful.
  19. After Day 3 Rio: 40/306 events, 38 NOCs with medals After Day 3 Tokyo: 50/339 events, 51 NOCs with medals Japan, the USA, China and Russia all going very well so far. Compared to Rio, they all have collected more golds already. Especially Japan, as expected. Some dents in the US team (if you can call it that in swimming) and a subpar day for China with no gold won. The silvers in weightlifting, diving and table tennis were mostly expected to be golden. Australia has gained momentum in the pool but only there when in Rio, medals (4-0-3) were won across many sports. Italy surely disappointed with no individual fencing gold and it also looked a bit brighter 5 years ago in general (same amount of medals but 3-4-2 in alloy). Also Hungary (3-0-0) and, interestingly enough, Thailand (2-1-1) have dropped a bit. Significant improvements compared to Rio by (1-1-2). Canada (0-1-3) and France (0-1-0) can be mentioned as well. Historical first gold for the Philippines. The biggest disappointment as to what was anticipated (so far) still the Dutch team but also thanks to reasons we know. 4th place counter* (4) (3) (2) (1) and the Refugee Olympic Team *5th places in events that award two bronze medals
