Can someone please explain the sprint progression to me. We just had 8 heats of the 1/16 round with 8 winners going to the 1/8 round. But the losing riders go to a repechage to have a chance to compete in the 1/8 round, too? Doesn't that throw the numbers off? -
Z-M does indeed end in 5th in the prelims. Sadly, Wiens finishes just 0.1 out of 18th and won't move on.

Just looking, Z-M doing great in diving, likely in 5th after the first round. Looks like a disappointing 5th dive, but was killing it in the first 4. Wow, hope he can clean up the 5th one moving forward. He had the 2nd highest dive of the qualification, just barely behind the top Chinese diver! I have to go rewatch this, been doing errands all day.

Mitchell and Genest qualified 2nd and 5th for the sprint and won their first round. 1/16 coming up.

C2 easily win their QF, but should be noted they were slightly slower that race than the heats. They didn't need to go faster, so it's still unsure how they'll stack up in the semis.

I was hoping for 3-4 medals today, and Canada finished with 3 so pretty good. There were three opportunities for Canada to have 2 athletes on the podium today and while all three times we got one, it was slightly disappointing only because I don't think I've ever seen that at a SOG in my lifetime. So 18 medals now, with one more guaranteed tomorrow. We still have a few chances in canoe, cycling and athletics. We'll see what happens.

Great performance by Damian! Pierce finished in 5th, but just 45 points off the podium. Remember, Damian also finished in 5th at his first Olympics in London.

Lepage's PBs on javelin and 1500 are better than Maloney and would cover the gap, but we'll see what happens. Obviously Mayer's PBs are much better than both of them, but he's not performing at his peak. He's still so close it'd be a surprise if he doesn't pass both of them. Edit: Forgot about Scantling. He's got a much better javelin PB, but it's from 5 years ago. If he got up there it'd put him in the conversation, but his 1500 is slower, too.

Not taking anything for granted with Warner, but I'm more concerned about Lepage holding onto a medal now.
