On reflection, it looks like we are pretty much certain to qualify our men's 4x100m medley relay team now because if I understand correctly, we can send 4 relay-only swimmers courtesy of the fact we have 2 relay teams qualified: For the women's 4x100m medley relay we are likely to enter Danielle Hill, Mona McSharry and Ellen Walshe and use 1 relay-only quota. That leaves us able to use 3 relay-only athletes for the men's event, assuming we enter Tom Fannon. We may qualify some swimmers through OCT invites anyway but the qualification of Danielle Hill and Tom Fannon this week should cement both relay team qualifying for Paris.

Yes exactly, would make more sense for them to try to balance events and male/female entries using this method. Not that every event should have the same amount (would be weird if 1500m free had the same amount of entries as 100m free) but there should be a minimum amount at least per event.

If I understand the qualifying process correctly, as things stand it looks like there will be more men qualified than women. It's strange that the IOC doesn't enforce equality in swimming the way they do in the majority of other sports.

With Tom Fannon qualifying, every chance the men's relay will make it now. Although Conor Ferguson didn't make the OQT in the 100 backstroke, he has an OCT and is probably within range of getting an invite. Not sure of the exact rules, but with Daniel Wiffen and Tom Fannon qualified, our team can accept the relay quota, Ferguson could well get in via an OCT invite, meaning Wiffen doesn't need to be included in the relay and we can still invite 2 relay-only athletes. Does that logic stack up or are there pesky rules I am not aware of?

Sad for Sanita but good to get the women's four qualified at least. That brings us to around 110 quotas (not exact since the relay spots in athletics and swimming make it hard to be exact). I think it's looking more likely we will be closer to 125 athletes than 130 athletes which is still mightily impressive. 2024 has been a strange year for us so far, it's so hard to gauge where we are at in terms of medal hopes.

Not a good idea because as you can see the televote results are a huge mess too. Israel almost won and that definitely was not “the people’s” choice either. The jury and public vote are both broken, neither work but what other option is there at this point?
