  1. Yes, his parents are Mika Jãrvinen and Kateřina Nekolná . Kateřina is former ~6000 points heptathlete and Mika is sport coach and I think former decathlete too. So sports genes are there :-) Tomas was born in Finland, but they moved to Czechia in his early age Not sure what are the rules for these dual-citizenship athletes, unless he already started at senior championship, he can still switch to Finland, I guess.
  2. I hope their career will be great. Its quite crazy that Czechia had so many talents in junior level last years (World or European champions Sykora, Dolezal, Doubek), but we are still waiting for 8400+ decathlete in senior level in last 17-18 years But Järvinen has good chance to change it, his decathlon total from PBs (with junior size disciplines) is around 8700 now...
  3. Now, when gender equality is big thing - what do you think about idea of erasing women's world records in athletics throwing events and starting new era when women will be using men's equipment weights. This may be too radical (for example mens discus is two times heavier) but on the other hand it will resolve crazy unbeatable records (shot put) from steroid era. I am quite curious if there already exist some world records (best performances) for women with mens weight equipment in throwing events. Maybe athletics will move towards this idea in the future...
  4. 1) I like seeing new sports at olympics, but I guess total athletes quotas cannot rise substantially, so it allways have some disadvatages and unpopular reductions (for example track cycling - 1km time trial/individual pursuit/points race all gone). While I like olympic village idea, where all athletes from different sports are together - what is exactly problem to have more athletes? Capacity? Money? 2) Competition format in some sports was quite strange - for example Double sculls rowing - 13 pairs entered, and we had heats and repechages to eliminate just ONE pair, everyone else continued to semifinals. Was it so difficult to add few more teams (or remove one and start with semifinals)? 3) OG should be top event for all athletes - this will probably never work for some sports (and some decisions do not help that - why soccer has age limit??) Also why there is nation quota limit in some sports? You can be number two in some sport, but you are not allowed to participate because number one is also from your country. In all individual events (and probably also in double/pairs events) country should be allowed up to 3 entries if they are among best on world, so they can fight for medals.
  5. I have some crazy ideas for various medal table rankings. Probably no one will try to compute this, but: 1) What will be the medal table ranking if only European athletes compete at OG? 2) If we use reverse ranking (last place gets gold...) 3) How many medals France lost if we discard all medals France got thanks to host quota 4) Medal table when only one best results per sport is counted for each nation.
  6. Some rule when athletes are forced to fight for gold would be nice. Something like: at least three heights in jump off before they are allowed to share gold
  7. I am not against combined format, it's fine (although it is challenging to set these two disciplines for fair competition). I just heard few times, that for 2028 there is a possibility lead and bouldering will be separated and each will be medal discipline. So I am asking if someone has more info about this..
  8. Is it already decided that lead and bouldering will be 2 separate disciplines at 2028 OG? If not, when it will be decided?
  9. At least during swimming you can see whole pool so we have some idea how are athletes doing. But during laser run it is quite stupid to show shooting info only for top5 and than hiding it. All that changes to make modern pentathlon "more interesting" and when they have a chance to present this sport to world during olympics, it's such disaster.
  10. What a great TV results graphic! There is a shooting race for final positions and when it gets interesting, they removes it.
  11. Results from today's fencing ranking round will be used also for final?
  12. I would prefer to see 2 competitors from one country in classical slalom disciplines than this new kayak cross stuff. But at least it is a last chance for how to avoid the first games in 30 years without a medal.
  13. Can we have some better tracking service than official olympic page? https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/results/cycling-road/men-s-road-race/fnl-000100-- Until they reach final circuits, there will be no info, I guess It would be nice to see who is still in peleton and who is already dropped.
  14. Warner and other athletes (Ureña and Skotheim) Kaul in danger too This has happened so many times. I know they want to save energy and avoid long delays in the competition... but maybe it would be better to start with the lowest 420cm height
  15. Máme zlato! Well done Katerina and Tomas. Czechia score in super tiebreaks these games is 7:0 now!
