  1. I know you like to hammer on this endlessly, and probably don't care, but... The Valieva case was drastically different. The international fed and WADA had to appeal to CAS and go through all that to get her DQ'd because the test was a domestic event... all the while Russia dragged their feet and obsfucated and RUSADA giving her a pass If the test had happened at the Olympics, it would have been a different story
  2. Looking at it relative to apparatus and qualifying scores, looks like we're in 7th, and could maybe catch Italy for 6th Just getting to the final was a huge win
  3. We can only expect so high a conversion rate. Everyone else in the world is trying to win too. There will be surprises, there will be disappointments... and in many ways, the disappointments make the surprises that much better!
  4. Don't know a lot about fencing... but Harvey has been on the backfoot the whole time.
  5. Knox and Acevado certainly upped their game for the final. That's about as good a time as we could have asked for.
  6. Oh wow... we snuck through to the team final in gymnatics! Turkey and Spain had absolute nightmares on their last rotations
  7. Swim Canada needs to take a hard look at what they've done to the women's sprint program. Haven't had any new stars emerge this cycle, we're getting kinda long in the tooth, and we went from 4 swimmers with the A standard, to none McIntosh's spectacular rise has distracted from the rest of the program kinda getting stuck in neutral
  8. And a big vault rotation from Turkey, and we're now on the outside looking in
  9. Sharing a podium with Titmus and Ledecky. Not a bad way to win your first medal!
  10. Looking ok in gymnastics... halfway thru the last subdivision we're sitting 8th... 0.8 up on Italy and 1.0 up on Turkey. We need to beat them both to make the final
  11. Something about relays just do it for certain people. Seen a lot of 4x400 on the track where a guy that can barely crack 47 seconds individually, but give him a baton and he runs 44's
  12. This is how our biathlon relays typically do it. Strongest two up front, weakest at three, next weakest at four. Hope they can hang around the first two legs and it lights a fire under those in the back half
  13. If that puts it to bed, I'll take it. FIFA had to hit them hard. Can't do that crap at the Olympic games. They get to finish out their pool games, and maybe we should appreciate that
  14. I'm all for trying it. Load up the front, see if the psychology of a good position can maybe get a bit more out of your weaker swimmers. Worth a try, you never know, relays are a strange animal
  15. Yeah, that's actually the question mark in my mind is whether she has the sprint speed I guess we'll find out
  16. I don't think an extra 100 free will take that much out of her, anyway, since she dropped the 200 free she has a day off tomorrow
  17. Men's gymnastics finish with 247.794. That will probably be right around the bubble, so they'll have a stressful day of watching. One big thing is they beat Germany in their sub-division, could be a crucial
  18. 3:12.77 and thru in 5th. Solid. Too bad Gaziev did whatever he did. An extra second might have got us close
  19. Yeah, not a great leg. Fortunately we'll sneak thru. If China struggles, could be a fascinating race for bronze
  20. Through four rotations of gymnastics, the men are looking like they could be right around the bubble to crack the top 8 and go to the final. Dolci's all-around hopes may be sunk after a nightmare on the pommel
  21. Why people feel the need to mess with a good thing is beyond me
