  5. When it comes to July 27th/Day 1 of competition, the only realistic medal shot should have is Francisco Garrigós in judo (Men's -60kg) A shock medal option could be Juan Ayuso in road cycling (Men's time trial)
  6. Unless there are last minute injuries/withdrawals or surprise quota re-allocations, Spain should go to Paris with a squad of 382 athletes (190 men & 192 women), the largest one in history besides ofc Barcelona '92 at home. Thanks in great part to the excellent qualifying campaign when it comes to team sports, having representation in both men & women competitions in Football, Basketball, Handball, Waterpolo & Field Hockey + women's 3x3 Basketball. IIRC only France, USA & Australia have a bigger representation in team sports, + tied with Japan with 11. The only sports without Spanish representation in Paris will be Volleyball (6x6 indoors, I mean), Rugby 7, BMX Cycling, Wrestling, Weightlifting and Breakdance. Archery: 2 - 1 male & 1 female Artistic Swimming: 8 - all female Athletics: 58 - 26 male & 32 female Badminton: 2 - 1 male & 1 female) Basketball: 28 - 12 male & 16 female Beach Volleyball: 6 - 2 male & 4 female Boxing: 6 - 5 male & 1 female Canoeing Slalom: 5 - 3 male & 2 female Canoeing Sprint: 16 - 9 male & 7 female Cycling: 9 - 7 male & 2 female Diving: 4 - 2 male & 2 female Equestrian: 8 - all male Fencing: 2 - 1 male & 1 female Field Hockey: 32 - 16 male & 16 female Football: 36 - 18 male & 18 female Golf: 4 - 2 male & 2 female Artistic Gymnastics: 8 - 5 male & 3 female Rhythmic Gymnastics: 7 - all female Trampoline Gymnastics: 2 - 1 male & 1 female Handball: 28 - 14 male & 14 female Judo: 9 - 5 male & 4 female Modern Pentathlon: 1 - all female Rowing: 9 - 6 male & 3 female Sailing: 13 - 6 male & 7 female Shooting: 4 - 2 male & 2 female Skateboarding: 5 - 2 male & 3 female Sport Climbing: 2 - 1 male & 1 female Surfing: 3 - 1 male & 2 female Swimming: 20 - 9 male & 11 female Taekwondo: 4 - 2 male & 2 female Table tennis: 2 - 1 male & 1 female Tennis: 8 - 6 male & 2 female Triathlon: 5 - 3 male & 2 female Waterpolo: 26 - 13 male & 13 female
  7. Alejandro Davidovich (tennis) has been replaced by Jaume Munar at men's individual competition due to a back injury.
  8. Unfortunately I have to work from 8 am to 3 pm CEST during the whole Olympics (bar weekends) so I'll just have to tune in to whatever is broadcasted during the afternoon.
  9. I wonder if at the Olympics there will be the same security failure regarding Saint-Denis' "local population" that happened at the 2022 Champions League final (i.e. dozens of fans assaulted and robbed by gangs at the doors) In terms of politics, it had a quite significant impact on Spanish media.
  10. As always, public broadcaster TVE will broadcast the Olympics. They are in a bit of trouble due to the massive amount of teams that we qualified (both men & women's in football, basketball, handball, waterpolo & field hockey, + women's 3x3 basketball), since they will have to try broadcasting every game of these teams, and these games tend to be long, it's not like a taekwondo combat in which one can tune in and the competition ends in the span of less than 20 minutes.
  11. From Not ultra-safe/locked by any means but the most predictable Gold medal options are in Race Walk, either Álvaro Martín in Men's competition, María Pérez in Women's competition or the mixed marathon relay race. Both Martín & Pérez are the current world champions. The other one is Jordi Xammar & Nora Brugman in Sailing (470 mixed), they've been almost unbeaten during this olympic cycle.
  12. So, the very first competitive events of the Paris Olympics will be vs & vs matches from Men's Football tournament right? July 24 at 15:00 CEST.
  13. Marcus Cooper (Canoeing) & Támara Echegoyen (Sailing) Carolina Marín (Badminton, Rio 2016 gold medal) was initially bound to be the female flag-bearer but ultimately was scrapped because her competition starts the following day. Marcus Cooper - Rio 2016 gold medal in K-1 100m, Tokyo 2020 silver medal in K-4 500m, first foreign-born Spain flag-bearer in history (born in Oxford, UK) Támara Echegoyen - London 2012 gold medal in Elliott 6m along with Sofía Toro & Ángela Pumariega
  14. Spain's swimming squad for Paris Olympics, 18 athletes. Men (9) Sergio de Celis - 100m freestyle, 4x100 freestyle relay & 4x100 medley relay Carlos Garach - 800m freestyle, 1500m freestyle, 4x200 freestyle relay & 10km open water Hugo González de Oliveira - 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 200m medley & 4x100 medley relay Mario Mollá - 100m butterfly, 4x100 freestyle relay & 4x100 medley relay Arbidel González - 200m butterfly César Castro - 4x100 freestyle relay & 4x200 freestyle relay Luis Domínguez - 4x100 freestyle relay & 4x200 freestyle relay Ferrán Julià - 4x200 freestyle relay Carles Coll - 4x100 medley relay Women (9) Carmen Weiler - 100m backstroke & 200m backstroke África Zamorano - 200m backstroke Emma Carrasco - 200m medley & 400m medley Ainhoa Campabadal, María Daza, Alba Herrero & Paula Juste - 4x200 freestyle relay María de Valdés - 10km open water Ángela Martínez - 10km open water
  15. Wish: Break the Barcelona 1992 record of 22 medals, and we definitely have the potential to get ≈25. Prediction: 20. Second best but not enough to break the record. Less than our average of 17-18 would be a disappointment.
  16. With Rafael Lozano's qualification, it's the highest representation at the Olympics boxing competition since ofc 1992.
  17. IIRC, first time since 2008 that brings more than one competitor in Fencing to the Olympics (Llavador + already qualified Lucía Martín-Portugués in women's sabre)
  18. First post after months lurking on this site :D Young pair Tania Moreno Avdeeva & Daniela Álvarez Mendoza just qualified for Olympics by reaching QF in Espinho tournament, Spanish presence in beach volley in Paris locked.
