That is my mistake - I had forgotten that the Points race and IP are not included as Olympic events. Tarling certainly has high hopes in the ITT, rumours of him doubling up on the track TP are intriguing and can only help GBR. It would surprise me, some think he has a genuine chance at the Olympic title in the time trial given his development. I’ve been assuming Hayter doubles up and rides the Omnium instead of Walls given his pedigree in the event? I don’t have an inkling on what the preferred Madison pairing is on the men’s side. Possibly they take Stewart like you say, will leave to the more informed posters to speculate. On the Irish note, Lara was brilliant today in the Omnium and was very unlucky to lose out on a medal on the final sprint by 1 pt. Really attacked the points race. I still think Archibald goes for Omnium and TP, not Madison but just guessing at this point. Barker riding the Madison and TP makes sense. I figure the potential of Laura Kenny coming back means plans are subject to change. At this point the Dutch are not being beaten in the men’s individual sprint or team sprint, maybe the Keirin is a chance another nation takes the title. The female Keirin for me is the most open, it will be interesting if Emma can improve her race craft and be a force in this discipline, building on the silver she won last year.

From what I have seen Finucane will go to Paris as a strong gold fav in the individual sprint and GB will push Ger for gold in the team sprint. The Keirin will be quite open and up for grabs I think. the men’s spring side however for GB does not look competitive, I don’t see any medals from those 3 events. for the endurance events, GB should be competitive across all formats. the team pursuit teams look really strong, especially with Barker and Archibald coming back into the team. Possible Laura Kenny making the team. On the men’s side, can they overhaul the Danes and the Italians? I’m not sure but they appear closer than 2023. The individual pursuit also look promising with Bigham riding strongly. Ganna I assume will start fav. On the women’s side, I don’t know what the plan is for the GB representatives. Possibly an entry for Kenny if she makes team? i think Katie will ride the omnium and not the Madison (unless Laura does make it back onto the team), and Neah will ride Madison or the Points race. On the Men’s side there are a variety of options to go with including Vernon, Hayter, Wood, Tidwell. It should be interesting to see how the team begins to take shape in the coming months.

Thanks all for the info! It's a new sport for me to be exposed to and I have tickets to a group game at Paris, which is exciting! Britain might be able to compete in the 5th-8th place matches after clearly being overwhelmed by Netherlands

Thanks Rafa for this insight - what are your early medal predictions for GB boats at Paris? Mens 4 & Womens L2X look like our best gold chances, with perhaps the W4X, and M8, W4, M2 representing good medal chances

Hi all - can someone clarify how the Paris 2024 quotas work on the Women's side? Watched the GB women pull off a great win yday and wondering if a 5th place finish here (behind Spain and Netherlands) would be enough to gain a spot at Paris? or can the qualification only be achieved from results at Doha?

Yeah I didn’t include Burras as I don’t think he is trusted… I'm not sure on Duncan’s or Jimmy’s schedule for Paris, hence left them as both possibles. Perhaps Burras is more likely than Jimmy, things should become clearer at trials. Seeing Jimmy’s return to freestyle form at SC makes me wonder if he will be in contention over 100m

Just a quick note on the 4x100m relay, assuming GB qualify in Doha (I.e. not another Dsq please), they could push US very hard in the final. I think predicting them for silver is appropriate, but it wouldn’t shock me if they took down the US with a quarter of: Richards Dean Guy / Scott Whittle Jacob is really improving as shown by his Euro SC PB, with Richards contesting for individual Gold, Dean being super reliable and with Jimmy or Duncan rounding the team off. Could be very fast, I’m interested to see if they can lay a glove on the Americans.

Wiffen has really impressed me, and it feels to me like whoever is on form in Paris could clean sweep across the 400m-800m-1500m triple, given his WR in the short course last week, there are seemingly multiple medals potentially for Dan. Does Mona have a genuine chance in the breaststroke? If so, what would be the better distance for her? Britain's hopes really vary with the one factor that is Peaty..I'd love to think he can be good enough to drag those relays into contention but the time drops required in 9 months are significant. He has the rabbit to chase with Qin so let's see what he can do. For the relays UK could really do with a backstroker coming out of the pack in the women's and men's side over 100m. I imagine Medi Harris and Luke Greenbank will be our top performers, although I feel both will be stronger over 200m. Jacob Peters emergence will give Jimmy a break from all the fly duty in the relays which helps, although I don't see him getting near individual medals. Duncan Scott getting close to Marchand would be amazing over 200 IM..maybe a lighter schedule will help, Duncan may not do either 100m or 200m freestyle in Paris. Qualifying for the 200m free is going to be ridiculous. I see you mention the W 4x2 & 4x1 medley relays. I think we are still lacking the firepower to get near to AUS, USA, CHINA before even considering FRA ITA. I'd love to be proved wrong though. Young Eva Okoro (sprinter for free and fly) is dropping eye popping time over in Ontario at the moment and could be an addition to the 100m relays to help Hopkin/Anderson/Harris/Wood etc. Abbie Wood is one i would love to get an individual medal, so many close near misses.

Hi all - unsure of the interest but curious to get some debate on hopes/predictions for Paris 2024 for individual sports for Team GB. In this thread swimming. Clearly long way to go with trials not until April next year, but as things stand how do we feel things are shaping ahead of Paris? My 2 cents thoughts: Gold medal chances: 1) 4x200m free relay Men (WR could go), 2) 200m free (Richards/Guy/Scott/Dean take your pick), 3) 4x100m Free relay men (if they qualify in Doha), Ben Proud 50m free Minor medals: Abbie Wood 200 IM, Luke Greenbank 200m Back, Peaty 100m breast (I'm not sure he can regain where he was), mixed 4x100m medley relay, Duncan Scott 200 IM Outside long shot medal chances: Katie Shanaghan (400m IM), Amelie Blocksidge 1500m (OK I might be delusional but this girl is a generational talent and her improvement at the moment is incredible), mens 4x100m medley relay, Medi Harris 200m back(?), Freya Anderson 200m free(?) [bronze chance with Titmus and Summer in there] I'm sure I'm missing a few chances...let me know!

Hi all - new to this site and very much enjoyed all of those predictions. I can speak specifically on the British hopes and I would say that I was very surprised to see Charlotte Dujardin not being predicted to medal in the individual dressage. Her recent tests on ImHoTop have been magnificent and she has been there done that multiple times at Olympics. The GB team will also include Charlotte Fry and I would be surprised if they did not claim Gold in the team event. GB have strong teams in the rowing (this has really rebounded since disappointment of Tokyo) and swimming, and even cycling has strengthened in last 12 months. Very excited for the games! I'll be out there for all 3 weeks. Bring it on!
