Have been enjoying a few days of R&R in Koh Samui so haven't been keeping track of events. Will look to clear backlog of results over the next few days.

Team for next month's European Championships has been announced - gotta admit, it is a little underwhelming given the decent start to the season, but it looks like a few of the athletes were ruled out due to injury. Men's -60Kg: Charlie Ayre - Took silver in the European Cup in Sofia in January but since then hasn't done huge amount on the tour, losing in his first round match in both Linz and Ljubljana. Men's -66Kg: Charlie Young - Got to the last 16 in Paris but then exited in first round in Linz. Men's -73Kg: Ben Levy - Started the year taking bronze in the Paris Grand Slam but lost in his first bout in Tbilisi earlier this month. Men's -73Kg: Ethan Nairne - Has had strong start to the season having taken silver in Sofia and taking his first Grand Prix title in Linz. He followed that up with a last 16 in Tbilisi earlier this month. Men's -100Kg: Oliver Barratt - Has reached the last 16 in both the Paris and Tbilisi Grand Slams and the last 32 in Linz. Women's -52Kg: Tatum Keen - Took silver in Tbilisi last week and finished 5th in Linz. Women's -57Kg: Acelya Toprak - With the exception of 5th place finish in Tbilisi, hasn't achieved huge amount this year. Women's -70Kg: Kelly Petersen-Pollard - Finished 7th in Linz and reached last 16 in Paris but lost in the first round in Tbilisi last week. Women's -78Kg: Emma Reid - Has had early exits in both Paris and Linz. Best result came last week in Tbilisi with 5th place. Women's -78 Kg: Shelley Ludford - Took gold in Ljubljana earlier in the year.

Call me mad, but it feels very strange to have made it all the way through a major championships without hearing how the results were going to lead to a slashing of funding for sport.

Plenty of positives to take away from the performances at an event that isn't always a priority for our top athletes. But perhaps biggest positive is the fact that maybe, just maybe UK Athletics is getting its act together when it comes to approach to selection. I could be wrong, but I think they pretty much took everyone they could - I don't think anybody who was offered a spot through the rankings was rejected. Hopefully this carries through the rest of the events coming up.

Catching up on backlog of results. Last week was the first couple of rounds in the BMX Racing European Cup and there was plenty of good news for Team . In the men's event, Ross Cullen did the double, winning both Rounds. Matthew Gilston was 13th with Kye Whyte in 17th in Round 1 but followed that up with a 6th and 8th place respectively in Round 2. In Round 1 for the women, Emily Hutt was the top finishing Brit in 3rd with Bethany Shriever in 8th place whilst Sienna Harvey took 2nd in the Under-23 race. In Round 2, Shriever took the top spot on the podium with Hutt finishing in 14th place. All in all a very positive weekend for both the men and the women. Appreciate that it is still early days, but think there is every chance that should be able to qualify 2 quotas in both the men's and women's BMX Racing for LA. Indeed, if Shriever can stay healthy and maintain form, there is even chance the women's could sneak a 3rd spot. It makes a huge difference having multiple riders scoring points in the Elite races. Going into Paris, the team were pretty much entirely dependent on the performance of Shriever. But with Shriever and Hutt in the Elite and Harvey likely to move into Elite next year, GB have a strong squad.
