Thoughts/Background Information

Anastasia and Alexander won the World Mixed Doubles Championship in 2016, they also beat Matt and Rebecca on April 29th, 2017. I think this match will be semi-close but I think the Olympic Athletes from Russia will come away with the win (hopefully not though)!

I will be creating these everyday for the Olympics! At the end of each day I will post a recap of the day! If there anything you think needs to be added just tell me! :)

Indeed, I expected OAR to win!

I was stunned by how poorly they played. Becca and Matt didn't make too many mistakes, but the Russian pair made a really insane amount.

Thoughts

I'm quite surprised that USA won, I was expecting a close match with OAR winning. Hopefully this win gives Matt and Rebecca confidence going into tomorrow!

Next one is going to be a rough one. 6 AM Eastern vs Canada.

Yeah I'll be asleep for it as I'm PST. We might be able to win vs Canada looking at how they played today, not sure if they played bad or if Norway played extremely well. Maybe a little bit of both.

Remember top 4 teams qualify for playoffs

Thoughts/Background Information

After our great win against OAR and Canada's shaky start we might be able to pull off the win. We had the best shot % ending the day yesterday. Hopefully this will be a close match either way.

Ski Jumping

Mens: Individual - Normal Hill Qualification  - 4:30am PST

Team USA

Michael Gladser

Casey Larson

William Rhoads

Kevin Brickner

In order to qualify: Top 50

Thoughts/Background Information

Honestly I'm not sure if any of the men will qualify as they are all making their Olympic debut and they are all much better at the Large Hill. If anyone of them are to qualify I'm not exactly sure which ones have the edge. If any of you follow Ski Jumping or know anything more feel free to tell me!

Thoughts/Background Information

We lost against Canada 6-4 but had a close start against them, I think if we don't make any mistakes and play our best we might be able to beat Switzerland but they are leading the table.

Women's Moguls Qualification 1 - 5:00pm PST

Team USA

Tess Johnson

Jaelin Kauf

Keaton McCargo

Morgan Schild

In order to qualify: To qualify straight for finals must be in top 10

Thoughts/Background Information

This is all four Women's Olympic debut. Jaelin Kauf is currently ranked 1st in the World Cup in Moguls followed by Morgan in 7th, Keaton in 8th and Tess in 10th. These Women have a great chance of winning a medal!

Freestyle Skiing

Men's Moguls Qualification 1 - 6:45pm PST

Team USA

Casey Andringa

Troy Murphy

Emerson Smith

Bradley Wilson

In order to qualify: To qualify straight for finals must be in top 10

Thoughts/Background Information

3 of the 4 men are making their Olympic debut. Bradley Wilson has been to the 2014 Olympics placing 20th in Moguls. Bradley is currently 7th place in the Moguls World Cup standings, followed by Troy in 12th, Emerson in 13th and Casey in 20th. If Bradley can really push himself he has a possibility of getting a medal.

I would not be surprised if I missed anything or got the times wrong NBC, Olympichannel, and NBC Olympics all had different times for events so I could not tell which ones were correct. I also have very little information about the qualification events. If you guys have any information I missed or would like added just tell me. I'm hoping this will keep everything clear so you can see all the events USA athletes are participating in.

    • I won't write about injuries (Fede) and non-sporting matters (Colturi), but the fact is that Italy has its worst start to the season in alpine skiing in over 10 years... Just one victory, and podiums- if any, they're mostly 3 places. We're also not leading in any of the season standings, no in the women's or men's categories. This isn't be it should be in an Olympic year in your country, where you're having your worst season in many years.
    • Plaisier blew 3 match darts and Ratajski comes back to win!
    • Yes, she was unlucky, but it could just as easily have happened during some training, like with Gut, etc. Brignone has been essentially injury-free throughout her long career, which is very rare in this sport. It's unfortunate that this happened after her best season ever and just 1 year before the Olympic Games in home, when she just missing of win the Olympic gold medal in her great career. With the gold in Cortina, she would have become a legend of Italian skiing, on par with Tomba. Now she's still the best Italian woman in history, but the miss of Olympic gold will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
    • It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.   We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...
    • Mikaela Shiffrin  off the podium today (Edit: Oops...I thought this was slalom, not Giant Slalom.).  Nina Astner  entered the 2nd run in 30th place, but had the best second run, jumping up 18 places to 12th.
    • Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel with a 5th place PB in Semmering GS!
    • Today RDC will defeat Senegal  and Tunisia 0-0 Nigeria
