Swimming qualification is messy...but suffice it to say, I think we'll have a full team.  (26-28 per gender)

Pool swimming is basically based on having the entry standard (which we'll def meet).

The new events will be awarded during the WC in October 2027.

Open water swimming will award quotas during the WCh in 2027, ranking as of 1 Feb 2028, as well as a final OQE in 2028.

We've got a few of our top dogs over in China right now.

Yu Zidi, the 13-yr-old from China, beat Regan Smith in the 200m fly.

Kate Douglass scored bronze in the 100m free.

Jack Alexy finished 2nd in the 50m free (behind Cameron McEvoy :AUS and his new WR)

Kate Douglass scored another bronze in the 50m free. (only .03 difference between gold and bronze) Gretchen Walsh was in 4th.

Regan Smith won gold in the 200m back.

Kate Douglass scored gold in the 200m breast.

One more day tomorrow.  I think it was just the four of them, and I think they only landed a couple of days ahead of time...Regan referred to it as 'a business trip'.

The first Open Water world cup is going on.  The US didn't send anyone.

We do have a couple of athletes that are in the top 30 (only 22 per gender compete in LA28):

Men - Dylan Gravely is #18, Ivan Puskovitch is #27 (finished 19th in Paris)

Women - Mariah Denigan is #15 (placed 16th in Paris), and Brinkleigh Hansen is #28 (she's only 16 years old!)

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
